The programme is open to students whatever their country of origin, with a master degree preferably in genetics or animal sciences or, according to the topic, in biology with a background in quantitative genetics or in statistics with a background in biology. An Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate to generate the future leaders of the animal breeding and genetics sector worldwide, whether for employment in academia or in industry. 4 years duration Applications Applications: between 1st of October and 30th of November, for a PhD starting the following year (September). The candidates can choose between around 12 PhD projects published each year on EGS-ABG website: www.egsabg.eu All candidates must apply online on the application tool provided on EGS-ABG website. European Graduate School in Animal Breeding and Genetics The European Graduate School in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EGS-ABG) offers a programme shaped to train the new generations of animal breeders to meet the challenges of the increasing demand of food while reducing the impacts on environment and biodiversity. EGS-ABG is jointly organized by four European higher education institutions, namely, AgroParisTech (APT, France), Aarhus University (AU, Denmark), Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Sweden) and Wageningen University (WU, The Netherlands). EGS-ABG offers 6 funded 4-year PhD projects scheduled to start on September 2015 A total of 6 projects will be funded among the 10 listed in the Table below. Candidates can apply for up to 3 projects, and the choice of the funded projects will depend on the ranking of candidates. Each PhD project is jointly supervised by two institutions (see above the meaning of acronyms). Mobility between both institutions is a full part of the programme. Students who still are in their 2 nd master year can already apply: if they are selected, their enrolment will be conditioned to their Master award before July 31, 2015. ADMISSION The FIPDes Consortium selects highly motivated students meeting the following formal admission criteria: BSc degree or equivalent degree of at least 180 higher education credits in food science and technology, biotechnology, process engineering, biochemistry or related fields Grade point average needs to be at mini- mum 70% of the maximum score Demonstrated English B2 (advanced) lan- guage proficiency level Respect of the application deadline APPLICATION The application is done using the online form available at where you can also find detailed information about application procedures and deadlines. LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION The official language of the EMMC-FIPDes course is English with ample opportunities to learn the local languages and cultures. In France some optional modules shared with national courses are in French. PARTICIPATION COSTS The subscription fees per year are: 9.000 for non-european students 4.500 for European students ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIP The European Commission offers a few Erasmus Mundus Scholarships, which cover the participation costs and contribute to the subsistence costs and travel costs (1.000 per month) for EU and non-eu students. The FIPDes Consortium will select the best candidates for the Erasmus Mundus scholarships. Scholarship holders are selected on basis of academic potential and in observance of geographical criteria determined by the European Commission. Food Innovation and Product Design International MASTER SHORT-TERM SCHOLARSHIP FOR INVITED PROFESSORS Erasmus Mundus scholarships can be awarded to invited Professors, enrolled in any non-eu Higher Education Institution, who will be selected by the FIPDes Consortium to contribute to the joint programme. The selected invited Professors will carry out research or teaching assignments as part of the FIPDes EMMC. The minimum duration of the stay is two weeks (2.400 scholarship). The Erasmus Mundus Master Course FIPDes (Food Innovation & Product Design) is an outstanding 2-year integrated programme. It aims to qualify graduates to deal with the growing challenges in food innovation. FIPDes is part of the elite Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMMC) programme initiated by the European Commission to enhance and promote European Higher Education throughout the world. FIPDes puts you in a truly international environment with students from all over the world. FIPDes involves you in exciting projects with international industrial and academic partners. THE FIPDes PARTNERS The FIPDes programme is offered by a consortium of four European universities from France, Ireland, Italy and Sweden. FIPDes offers a truly integrated study programme fully recognized in all the participating countries. The first year of studies will impart to the students a broad knowledge of food science, technological and entrepreneurial skills. Students will attend half-year courses in France and Ireland. The second year will give them the opportunity to specialize in one of three well-defined options: 1. Healthy Food Design (Italy) 2. Food Design & Engineering (France) 3. Food Packaging Design (Sweden) The MSc. Thesis focuses on R&D experimental subjects according to the student specialisation and professional plans. FIPDes is also supported by private companies and public research organisations, among them: PROGRAMME STRUCTURE FIPDes adopts an integrated approach from materials to packaged product, including technical, entrepreneurial and culinary knowledge in food innovation. After getting 120 ECTS from the FIPDes institutions, successful students will obtain MSc. Multiple Degrees, a Joint FIPDes Diploma including a Joint Diploma Supplement.
