Harlem YMCA Black Achievers in Industry Youth Achiever Scholarship Application Guidelines Eligibility All African-American NYC college bound high school seniors that participate in NYC YMCA teen programs. Award Scholarship awarded in the amount of $5,000. This is a one time award. Recipients must re-apply annually to be eligible for future awards. Award will be sent to the recipient s school of choice, to be credited to the recipient s tuition, and/or room and board fees. The Award will be officially announced on March 20, 2014, at the 44th Annual National Salute to Black Achievers in Industry Awards Dinner. Scholarship Guidelines Candidates must submit: 1. Completed application 2. Two essays 3. Letter of recommendation 4. Official transcript 5. Photograph 6. SAT Score 7. Resume 1. Application (10 pts) The application must be legible and must be completely typed. Provide all requested information. Do not leave any areas blank. (put n/a if it does not apply to you) 2. The Essays (50 pts) Write two essays, totaling a minimum of 500 words. The essays must be typed, doubled spaced with one inch margins in 12 pt Times New Roman font. Each essay must have a heading. The essays must be original, not previously published. The two essays combined, must total a minimum of 500 words. The essays will be rated on: development of topic, creative content, readability, grammar, spelling and punctuation. 3. Recommendation Letter (10 pts) Letter of recommendation from a school official preferred (Principal, Guidance Counselor or Teacher). 4. Official Transcript (10 pts) It must be submitted in a sealed envelope. 5. Photograph (10 pts) Email a 300 dpi image in.jpg or.tiff file format to gdavis@ymcanyc.org. Business casual wear required for photograph. 6. SAT Score (10 pts) 7. Resume Bonus (5 pts) Requirements (if selected) Scholarship recipients must agree to communicate with his or her sponsor company at least once per semester in a given award year to provide a general update on progress and/or overall performance. Selection Scholarship applications will be reviewed and rated by the Black Achievers in Industry Scholarship Committee.
