Time Presentation Title Faculty 7:30am - 8:00am 8:00am - 8:15am Registration Heart-healthy Breakfast Welcome The WHY: Stories from the Heart New Stroke Scales for Identifying Large Vessel Strokes Heart-healthy Breakfast & Networking Lunch sponsored by Dignity Health St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Ron Loomis, RN, BSN, CPHQ Senior Regional Director American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association Melanie Baldwin & Kate Eggington Volunteers, Heart Ambassadors American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association 8:15am - 9:00am Acute strokes due to large vessel occlusion are among the most serious types of stroke, with a high mortality rate. Endovascular treatment is an effective treatment for large vessel occlusions and can reduce mortality and disability. Proper treatment of this time-sensitive condition begins with trained first responders who can identify severe stroke and bring the patient to the facility best-equipped to treat it. Novel Oral Anticoagulants and Reversal Agents TJ Smith, NR EMT-P EMS Training Officer City of Henderson Fire Department 9:00am - 9:45am Novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are increasingly used in clinical practice, but lack of commercially available reversal agents is a major barrier for mainstream use of these therapies. Reviewing pharmacokinetic data may help health care providers determine a safe time from last dose to perform a procedure or give a fibrinolytic medication for an ischemic stroke. Ragini S. Bhakta, Pharm.D., BCPS Clinical Pharmacist Dignity Health St. Rose Dominican Hospitals
