Words from the Dynamic Duo Have you heard the term Active Aging recently? It is a relatively new term that has sprung up in the last decade or so. The National Seniors Council breaks it down into its simplest terms: it is a strategy to maximize the quality of life and well-being of seniors. Springdale Parks and Recreation has been a huge advocate of active aging. We offer numerous older adult programs, classes, luncheons and even have a Senior Lounge dedicated to those who are 62 and older. As a person ages, it is vital that they stay engaged with their physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. Have you ever attended one of our fitness classes such as L.I.F.E., Slimnastics, or Line Dancing? Maybe you attended one of our programs such as, This & That, Cincinnati Memories, or a Senior Luncheon that features some of the best local talent available? Most of these programs are free or very low cost and provide great social outlets that keep you active. The Springdale Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate Active Aging Week September 22-26. The weeklong national observance celebrates adults ages 50 and older as fully participating members of society and promotes the benefits of leading an active, healthier lifestyle. We have numerous activities planned such as a Line Dancing demo, Brain Games, Intro to Walking Sticks, Balance Class and much more. Try to earn your MBA (Master of Beer Appreciation) during our HOPS 101 class. If you attend at least four of the Active Aging events, you are invited to an Active Aging social on Friday, September 26 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. We will serve snacks and have numerous activities and games planned. If you have any questions, please see the Dynamic Duo- or Jay Health & Wellness Badminton FREE!
