Surgical Care, Centered on You Having surgery is an important decision, and so is choosing where to have surgery. At Woman s, your surgery will be performed by experienced specialists and surgeons equipped with the latest diagnostic and surgical technology. In addition, you ll experience your surgery and recovery in a comfortable, nurturing environment devoted solely to women. Exceptional Experts in Specialized Surgery Our experience in the latest surgical procedures far exceeds that of most other hospitals in Louisiana, and includes: Bariatric Surgery Breast Reconstructive Surgery Breast Surgery Cosmetic Surgery Gastric Bypass Gastrointestinal Procedures General Surgery Gynecologic Robotic Surgery Gynecologic Surgery Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgical Procedures Oncology Surgery Orthopedic Surgery Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Robotic Bariatric Sleeves Urogynecologic Surgery Urologic Surgery

Surgical Services Woman s Surgical Services is staffed with nurses, surgical technologists, nursing assistants and other specialized technicians who have extensive experience in caring for women s medical and surgical needs. Board-certified anesthesiologists remain in the hospital 24 hours a day to provide pain management and anesthesia care. An adult intensive care unit (AICU) is staffed with professionals specifically trained for critical care situations. To provide around-the-clock monitoring, physicians will monitor you using Mobile Virtual Critical Care (MVCC). MVCC uses virtual and wireless computer technology so an intensive care physician called an intensivist can remotely monitor you from Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL) Hospital. Your physician at Woman s will work together with the intensivist at OLOL to provide you the highest level of care and best outcomes. A supporting team of dietitians, social workers, physical and respiratory therapists and pastoral care providers addresses additional needs. Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery The Surgical Care Unit has 20 contemporary private rooms. After surgery, outpatients return to the Surgical Care Unit and inpatients are admitted to a private room in the appropriate unit for extended care. Your family may relax in a comfortable waiting area while you are in surgery.

General Surgery Some of the most common general surgical procedures performed at Woman s include: Appendectomy Breast Reconstruction Breast Surgery Colon Resections Hernia Repairs Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) Laparoscopic Gastrectomy Vertical Sleeve (weight loss surgery) Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (for gastroesophageal reflux)

Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology At Woman s, the Baton Rouge area s only board-certified gynecologic oncologists perform surgical procedures for all types of gynecologic cancer. Specialists at Woman s also perform various reproductive endocrinology (infertility) procedures. Many of the gynecologic surgeries are performed with the latest technology using physicianassisted robotic surgery. da Vinci Robotic Surgery The da Vinci Surgical System enables surgeons to perform minimally invasive robotic surgery. With this system, patients usually experience a shorter hospital stay, less pain, reduced risk of infection, less scarring and a faster recovery. Ask your doctor if your surgery may be performed using the da Vinci Surgical System. Laparoscopy and Endoscopy Many conditions are diagnosed and treated with laparoscopy, a type of surgery in which a scope is inserted into the abdominal and pelvic regions through small incisions in the abdominal wall. Laparoscopy offers women the benefit of smaller incisions, resulting in a shortened hospital stay and recovery period. Cosmetic Surgery Cosmetic surgery options at Woman s include tummy tucks, breast reductions, facelifts and more. Some procedures can even be combined, such as a hysterectomy and a tummy tuck. For more information, call our Cosmetic Surgery Coordinator at 225-924-8316.

Urology Conditions treated include: Incontinence Interstitial Cystitis Kidney Stones Blood in the Urine Painful Urination Growths (such as polyps and tumors) Painful Bladder Syndromes Ureteral Blockages Cystocele (fallen bladder) Other Urological Disorders Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery If you re considering weight loss surgery, you can rely upon the team at Woman s to be there for you every step of the way. From making the decision to have surgery, to helping you understand your nutritional needs before and after the procedure, to achieving and maintaining a physically active post-surgery lifestyle, we re here to help you reach your goals safely and effectively. We can even assist if you decide to choose body contouring surgery later. For more information, call our Weight Loss Surgery Coordinator at 225-924-8987.

Breast Surgery General surgeons perform surgery for breast cancer, including breast biopsies, sentinel lymph node biopsy, lumpectomies and mastectomies. Nearly one-third of breast cancer patients still require a mastectomy (removal of the breast or breasts). However, with advances in reconstructive surgery, about one-third of these women have their breast(s) rebuilt, creating a breast mound that comes as close as possible to the form and appearance of the natural breast. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for breast reconstructive surgery. For More Information Visit womans.org. Make Sure You Choose Exceptional Surgical Care Centered on You. When your doctor recommends inpatient or outpatient surgery, ask for the only hospital focused solely on women. Ask for Woman s.
