2 Discipleship Ministries 2017-2020 RELCC Grant Criteria 1. The ministry/project must be a project of a local United Methodist church or of the United Methodist connectional system. 2. The ministry/project must contribute directly to the mission and ministries of making disciples of Jesus Christ and must be consistent with the doctrine and social principles of the United Methodist 2016 Book of Discipline. 3. The ministry/project must focus on developing and strengthening the racial ethnic local church for witness and mission. 4. The ministry/project must be related to one or more of the essential services provided by Discipleship Ministries ministry areas. Accountable Discipleship Christian Education Curriculum Resources Evangelism Family & Life-Span Ministries Lay Ministries Leadership Development Spiritual Formation Stewardship Worship 5. The ministry/project must involve racial ethnic church members in the planning, leadership, and decision-making. NOTE 1. Priority will be given to new programs. Grants funded in the previous quadrennium of 2013-2016 will not be given priority for funding in 2017-2020. Our emphasis is to fund new entities for the 2017-2020 quadrennial. 2. MAXIMUM GRANT IS $10,000.00. 3. Funds are not provided for personnel and equipment. Applicants are encouraged to consult with Discipleship Ministries staff for guidance in preparing the application. Discipleship Ministries 2017-2020 RELCC Grant Application Instructions 3 For the 2017-2020 quadrennium there will be only one (1) grant cycle each year. Applications are due and must be postmarked on or before July 1 of each year. All applications must be complete at submission to be considered for funding. SUGGESTED SCHEDULE FOR COMPLETING APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE FOR MAILING APPLICATION AND ATTACHMENTS IS JULY 1ST. 2-6 months prior to deadline Solidify your plan and edit for clarity. Begin completing application, making contacts, developing budget, and preparing all other attachments. 4 weeks prior Finalize proposal (including an evaluation plan based on the goals and objectives). 2-4 weeks prior Submit completed application with attachments to endorsers and get endorsers signatures. 1 week prior Mail complete application with attachments and endorsements. NOTE: Proposals postmarked AFTER the due date of July 1 will be held for the next application deadline. APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS The application is broken out into five (5) parts. Several of the forms are included that must be used for submission. Sections 1-5 are as follows: 1. Cover Sheet with Project/Ministry Summary (included) 2. Budget Form (included) 3. Signature/Endorsements Page (included) 4. A. Issues/Need Statement B. Description of the Ministry/Project C. Ministry/Project Objectives D. Meeting the Objectives of the Minisrty/Project E. Evaluation Plan 5. W-9 (please attach) 1. The Cover Sheet is included in the grant application. Questions 1-6 must be completed by the project director. 2. Budget Form is included in the application package and must be returned with the completed application. Any line item showing more than $1,000.00 on the budget sheet must have a separate narrative sheet explaining the expense. [RELCC grants can only be received by one of the four (4) program agencies (Global Ministries, Church and Society, Higher Education and Ministry, and Discipleship Ministries) of the United Methodist Church for consideration. Multiple submissions for the same ministry/project may result in all submissions being voided.]

4 3. Signature/Endorsement Page. The following signatures found in the application are required at the time of the submission of the grant. They are: Bishop District Superintendent Conference Connectional Ministries Director Treasurer Local Church Pastor (for a local church sponsored ministry/project) Caucus Chair (all grants received from the 5 Official Racial/Ethnic Caucuses of the UMC) 4. Questions A-E (listed below) should be addressed on a separate sheet(s) of paper and must be submitted with the grant application. A. Issues/Need Statement. As specifically as possible, describe the issues/needs you want to address. The following questions may help guide your response: What are the issues or needs of the group requesting these funds? Have the persons who will benefit from this project been involved in the decision about the issues and needs? Who is most affected by this issue/need? What solutions have you already attempted in order to meet the issue/need? What were the results? B. Description of the Ministry/Project should state what are you going to do to address the need(s). Describe clearly and briefly the ministry or project for which the grant is being requested to address. C. Ministry/Project Objectives should address what is being accomplished through this ministry/project. What are the desired outcomes? Please provide a list of the primary objectives or goals that are measureable and can be used for the evaluation. D. Meeting the Objectives of the Ministry/Project should describe the steps to be taken to achieve the desired outcomes of this ministry/project. The following questions may help guide your work in this area: Who are the beneficiaries? Who is providing leadership? When and where are you going to implement the ministry/project? Is this a new ministry/project or is it the expansion or redirection of an existing ministry/project? What exactly will be done to meet the objectives/outcomes? E. Evaluation. What method(s) will you use to evaluate this ministry/project? Discipleship Ministries has a written evaluation form that is required for all grants that are funded. This form can be found on our web page for further guidance in completing this application. 5. W-9. Please submit a copy of your W-9 with your application. If your grant is approved, funds cannot be processed unless we have a W-9 on file. Local Churches, Districts and Organizations of the Annual Conference please check with your Annual Conference treasurer for this information. The 5 official Caucuses of the United Methodist Church please check with your treasurer to ensure we have your W-9 on file (Black Methodists for Church Renewal, Inc; Methodists Associated to Represent Hispanic Americans; Native American International Caucus; National Federation of Asian American United Methodists (The Cambodian National Caucus, National Chinese Caucus, National Association of Filipino American, Formosan Caucus, Association of Hmong, National Japanese, National Association of Korean American, Lao National Caucus, South Asian National Caucus, Vietnamese National Caucus); Pacific Islanders National Caucus of the United Methodist Church).
