Newsletter of the Florida Section ASABE March 2017 Table of Contents o Message from the Editor o Continuing Education o FASABE Awards Nominations o FASABE Annual Conference 2017 A message from the Editor. Cover Photo: Longhorn by Taylor Kroll, Sebring, FL. Welcome to 2017 fellow Ag and Bio Engineers. Hope everyone s year has started off productive and profitable. We ve got a lot in store for 2017 at the Florida Section of ASABE. We will be returning to the Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa for our 2017 Florida Section conference after taking a year off to host the international conference in Orlando last summer. We ve had a very warm winter so far and as we begin March it appears as if we may have skipped winter entirely this year. I have seen some reports of a good cold spell on the way for mid-march, but it is yet to be seen how low the jet stream will go. The National Weather Service Dry Season forecast for central Florida updated March 2017 predicts continued above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation through April. Daylight Savings Time spring forward 2017 will take place on Sunday, March 12. I m personally very excited about having some daylight at the end of the work day again to enjoy the outdoors a bit instead of retreating to the home-cave at 6 o clock every evening. More daylight in my neck of the woods means more fishing, more hiking, more fun and sometimes Of Importance more work as well, but that s okay. As the days get longer and temperatures keep rising, many of our temporary Florida residents will migrate back to the north and the locals will relish the smaller crowds at their favorite recreational areas. 412 Newman Rd. Sebring, FL 33876 (863) 414-0710 www.fl-asabe.org

March 2017 Message from the Editor continued.. I d like to remind everyone to stay up to date on their ASABE membership dues and encourage your peers to do the same. We re stronger together and the more participation we get in the organization the more we will all benefit from greater networking and sharing of expertise. Get out there and encourage your peers to join and attend our conference this summer. An Ag and Bio Engineering degree is not a pre-requisite for joining or attending our conference, so if you have friends or colleagues in the broader agricultural sector or any related field, please encourage them to consider attending our conference this summer in Jupiter; we d love to meet them. Until then, everyone stay busy and stay safe. March 2017 Continuing Education Florida Section ASABE Continuing Education Guidance Newsletter By Kimberly McCue, Vice Chair of Continuing Education mccuekm@royalconsulting.com Continuing Education Requirements Just a reminder that as of March 1, 2015 all professional engineers licensed in Florida will be required to obtain a total of eighteen (18) continuing education (CE) course hours in order to renew their licenses. These requirements are officially in effect for the 2015-2017 biennial renewal. Of the 18 hours, one (1) hour must be related to the laws and rules of professional engineers, one (1) hour must relate to professional ethics, and the remaining 16 hours can relate to any topic pertinent to the practice of engineering. CE hours may be earned by presenting or attending seminars, in-house or nonclassroom courses, workshops, or professional or technical presentations made at meetings, webinars, conventions, or conferences, including those presented by vendors with specific knowledge related to the licensee s area of practice. Up to four (4) hours of the CE hours may be obtained by serving as an officer for a Board-recognized professional or technical engineering society. The required hours relating to law, rules and ethics may also be earned by a PE serving as a member of the Legislature or as an elected state or local official.
