Waste Water Nova Scotia s SEPTIC PUMPING EXPO & ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING SEPTIC PUMPER EXPO Friday, April 08 Agridome, located on the Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Truro WWNS will be holding a Septic Pumping Expo at the Agridome located on the Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Truro (3km from the Best Western Glengarry). The Agridome is a large facility which will accommodate both presentations and a trade show (including trucks and equipment) inside the same building. There will be educational presentations and demonstrations of interest to Septic Pumpers, Portable Restroom Operators, Bed Flushers and others in the on-site industry. Newly developed training for Septic Pumpers will be reviewed. Displays open at 8:00am with presentations beginning at 9:30am. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Saturday April 09 Best Western Glengarry, 150 Willow Street, Truro The Annual General Meeting will be a busy day again this year. Displays and registration will open at 8 am and the meeting called to order at 9:00 am with the introduction of your Board of Directors and the trade show exhibitors. There will be a number of presentations, the annual business meeting of Waste Water Nova Scotia Society, product displays from new and returning exhibitors and a delicious buffet lunch (ticket included with your pre-registration). We hope to have you on your way home no later than 3:00 pm. Attendance is worth 10 Professional Developments Points. If you have not already paid your 2016 WWNS membership dues, you may do so either day. Registration desk and displays open at 8:00am on both days REGISTRATION Pre-registration is necessary to make sure that everyone has a seat and a hot meal! The registration fee for both days is only $10.00 per person, which includes lunch. Please complete the enclosed registration form and return it along with payment to WWNS prior to March 28.

PARKING Due to the large attendance at the Annual General Meeting, parking spaces fill up early around the Best Western Glengarry. To help with the congestion, there will be off-site parking nearby (5 minutes) at Cinaplex / Studio 7 in the Power Center located at exit 13A off Highway 102 (see map). A shuttle bus will provide transportation between the parking area and the Best Western Glengarry (Saturday, April 09 only). The shuttle will run all day, leaving the Power Centre at 7:45 am, 8:15am, 8:45am, 9:15am, 9:45am and 10:15am. After the 10:15 run, the shuttle will remain at the Best Western Glengarry and be available for those who want to return to their vehicles. There will be no charge for the shuttle. BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors for WWNS is a very dedicated group of people volunteering their time so that our province may be a more environmentally friendly area in regards to on-site services and to ensure our families continue to live, work and play in a clean environment. PRODUCT INFORMATION SESSION Clear Pod, Waterloo-Biofilter and Infiltrator Systems will be hosting a product information session in the evening on Friday, April 08. UPDATE FROM NOVA SCOTIA ENVIRONMENT Thanks to everyone who participated in the regional meetings to date, a friendly reminder to review the handouts that were provided. The NSE presentation on the coming changes is now available in the Resources section of the WWNS website. Revised regulations including the use of notifications and the new on-site sewage Standard will come into effect on May 1, 2016. Please stay tuned for updates to the NSE website including new forms as May 1 approaches. Updated messages: Development of a new best practices document will be delayed until the summer of 2016 and therefore the additional technical training session for QPs and professional engineers will also be delayed until the best practices document is complete. There will be opportunities to provide feedback during the development of the best practices document, so please check your email and WWNS s website for more information. ON-SITE SYSTEM INSPECTION TRAINING There will be an on-site system inspection training course offered at the Agridome in Truro on Friday April 08 from 9am 5pm. The training will be provided by ESSE Canada at a cost of $250 per person. To register, please contact Gary at the WWNS office: 902-246- 2131 or wastewaterns@eastlink.ca INSTALLER TRAINING WWNS is accepting registration for two Installer training courses. The first course will be held on March 9 th 11 th (registration deadline February 26) and the second course, if there is enough demand, will be April 18 th 20 th (registration deadline April 1 st ). If you are interested in this training, please contact the office of WWNS for details. WWNS WEBSITE The WWNS website has had a major makeover this year and changes continue to be made. When everything is done, we hope the site will have a fresh look and be easier to navigate. Please take a moment to check out the new site and review your contact information and professional development points to ensure that everything appears correct. INDIVIDUAL MEMBER WEBPAGE As a member of WWNS, you are now able to create your own webpage which will be linked to your contact information on the WWNS website to provide more details about your business and the services you offer. The login address is: http://wwns.ca/members/login.php To login, you will be asked to provide your member number which is the 5 digit member id # (Mbr Id) on your 2016 membership receipt and a password which is your last name. Login, fill in the information, and click the UPDATE button to activate your page. INSTALLER / QP REGIONAL MEETINGS WWNS has completed 10 of 14 regional meetings across the province for QP s and Installers. Changes to the on-site sewage program which will come into effect as of May 1 st were presented including a new set of Regulations, the Standard which will replace the current Technical Guidelines and the implementation of Notification. Leah Boutilier s presentation on the changes is available on the WWNS website. SEPTIC PUMPER / PORTABLE RESTROOM OPERATOR REGIONAL MEETINGS Regional meetings for Septic Pumpers & Portable Restroom Operators were not held this year. Those with a Septic Pumper or Portable Restroom Operator designation will be credited with the 15 PDP points normally associated with the regional meetings. WWNS will be holding the Septic Pumping Expo instead and hope everyone will have the opportunity to attend.

SPRING IDEAL HOME SHOW As part of our continuing public education, Waste Water Nova Scotia will once again have a booth at the Ideal Home Show, April 01 to 03 at Exhibition Park, in Halifax. This is a great opportunity to meet home owners and discuss the importance of a properly installed and maintained on-site sewage system. If you are interested in staffing the booth and helping to educate the public, please contact the WWNS office. ON-SITE SEWAGE PROGRAM TIDBITS - Waste Water Nova Scotia has a new email address wastewaterns@eastlink.ca and as well as a slight change in our mailing address to include the civic address 60 Kyle Rd. - 2016 is the beginning of a new 4 year cycle for the Professional Development Program for QPII s, Septic Pumpers, Portable Restroom Operators & Bed Flushers. Those participating in the program will need to accumulate a minimum of 100 PDP points by the end of 2019. Any extra points from the last cycle (2012-2015) cannot be carried over to the new cycle.
