Pediatric Emergency and Critical Care Medicine Constant advances in pediatric care make it essential for physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and emergency personnel to remain current in the most upto-date emergency and critical care management of children. This one-day conference is designed to provide health care providers with the latest information on pediatric emergency and critical care. Outline modalities available to support pediatric respiratory status short of intubation including high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP and CPAP. 2. Discuss the use of intranasal medications for anxiolysis, sedation and analgesia for children in the Emergency Department. 3. Review the most common pediatric orthopedic injuries and both their initial treatment (in the ED) and definitive management; discuss which orthopedic conditions require immediate intervention (such as fracture or dislocation), and which require immediate consultation. Explain when referral to a pediatric orthopedic specialist is indicated. 4. Describe the current research recommendations for pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and review outcomes data. 5. Demonstrate the use of point-of-care (bedside) lung ultrasound in various clinical scenarios such as pneumonia, bronchiolitis, pneumothorax and pleural effusion. 6. Describe the role of nitrous oxide use for children in the ED and review the steps needed to implement a nitrous oxide program. 7. Define a healthy microbiome. 8. Review common infections and discuss ways to minimize unnecessary testing and antibiotic use in the evaluation of young infants presenting to the ED with fever. 9. Review the diagnosis and management of serious acute neurologic conditions in children in the ED and in the Pediatric ICU. 2 3
