PAST COMMANDANT Bruce Carter Bcarter436@aol.com SERGEANT OF ARMS Walter Top Padgett A MESSAGE FROM OUR COMMANDANT Spring has sprung Fall has fell Winters come And it's cold as... & rainy But good times are just around the corner with the trip to Washington and the golf tournament and other fun stuff. February's MCL meeting will prove interesting and rewarding as well. Our Public Relations Officer, Jack Brienza, has been busy and has, in his usual manner, influenced the right people to be generous and forthcoming with support for our Detachment and all our Charities. What an asset Jack is to us. The extra support we receive from the Corporations like NUCOR STEEL, STEEL FAB and several others, are so very appreciated and are put to very good use in helping Marines and their families and other community charities and efforts. This one's gonna be brief so it can get into the letter (hopefully). I trust we'll be seeing everyone on the 19th at our regular monthly meeting so that those of us who make the IWO JIMA trip can share stories of the fun we all shall have had. God Bless & SEMPER FI! THE YOUNG MARINE PROGRAM Charlotte Detachment 750 is the proud sponsor and supporter of the MECKLEBURG COUNTY YOUNG MARINES. Detachment members are invited and are encourage to visit the Young Marines meetings at UNCC Charlotte Campus. MISSION: The Young Marines (YM) program is the drug demand reduction effort of the Marine Corp League and the United States Marine Corps. The official mission of the Young Marines is: To promote the mental, moral and physical development of its members. To instill in its members the ideals of honesty, fairness, courage, respect, dependability, attention to duty, love of God, country, and family. To stimulate an interest in and respect for, academic achievement and the history and traditions of the United States of America. To promote physical fitness through physical activities, including participation in athletic events and close order drill. To advocate a drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines program is run in a military fashion using similar staff structure, courtesies, customs, and discipline as the US Marine Corps. The Marine Corps enlisted rank system is used in the NEW CALENDAR TBA program--young Marines wear the same uniform and enlisted rank insignia as members of the US Marines Corps, with the addition of Young Marine patches. Young Marines work toward ribbons for personal achievement similar to badges earned in other youth programs. They also work towards promotions in rank. Rank promotions require positive reports from the Young Marine s teachers and parents; mastering knowledge and skills outlined in the Young Marine guide book; and meeting physical fitness requirements. STAFF The Mecklenburg County Young Marines is the preeminent unit in the Charlotte area. Our staff consists of adult volunteers who are current and former marines who believe passionately that the values they learned as Marines had a positive effect on them. Other adult volunteers are involved in college military programs or have experienced the military lifestyle. It is through these caring adults that Young Marines learn the inner values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. MECKLENBURG COUNTY YOUNG MARINES Calendar Mecklenburg County Young Marines Meet two Saturdays a month from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm UNC-Charlotte Student Union Center LIFE MEMBERSHIP Our membership should all consider taking a Life Membership.
