Responsible For : The Registered Nurse will work in accordance with the requirements of a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) competency standards. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for the supervision of the Enrolled Nurse and planning the work required for the rostered shift. Registered Nurse is in-charge of Hospital when the Health Service Manager is absent in certain facilities within the District. Purpose Of Position : The Local Health District Nurse Reliever delivers the opportunity for Registered Nurses and Registered Midwifes to rotate to different facilities and work environments, within the Western NSW Local Health District, commensurate with their level of skill, knowledge and experience, working in a clinical practice setting where there is an identified deficit for a limited period of time. The Registered Nurse: Is responsible for their own practice within the definitions of their current nursing registration and the Nurses and Midwives Act 1991; Complies with the relevant legislation, standards, code of conduct and ethics consistent with the Registered Nurse role; Works within NSW Health and WNSWLHD policies and guidelines; Maintains their own professional portfolio and commitment to learning and development through the utilisation of evidence based practice and research; Participates in annual performance appraisal process; Develops strong collegial links and partnerships with other registered nurses and allied health professionals; Complies with relevant documentation requirements for patient care plans, progress reports, and referral practices. Living in a rural/remote community and working in a Multipurpose Health Service covering all areas including Emergency, Acute Inpatients and Residents with 2 staff per shift. To be able to manage a changing work environment depending on presentations to emergency and acute patients while caring for 10 Residents. Recognises that the membership and roles of health care teams and service providers will vary depending on an individual s/group s needs and health care setting. Communicates nursing assessments and decisions in written documentation to the interdisciplinary health care team and other relevant service providers. Facilitates communication and coordination of care to achieve agreed health outcomes. Collaborates with the health care team to inform policy and guideline development. Uses a range of assessment techniques to collect relevant and accurate data when assessing individual/groups to identify health issues and analyses and interprets assessment data accurately. Decision Making : Plans and documents nursing care based on assessment, treatment, expected and agreed outcomes and agreed priorities, in consultation with individuals/groups, significant others and the interdisciplinary health care team. Plans for continuity of care to achieve expected outcomes. Provides comprehensive, safe and effective evidence-based nursing care to achieve identified individual/group health outcomes to manage the nursing care and treatment of individuals/groups, evaluating progress towards planned outcomes and revises the plan of care and determines further outcomes in accordance with evaluation data. Selection Criteria : Selection Criteria 1) Current authority to practise as Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures affecting Registered Nursing practice. 2) Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based best practice and the ability to accept accountability and responsibility for own actions within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse. 3) Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to be able to work independently with flexible work practice and willing to work a 7 day roster covering all shifts. 4) Willingness to work and travel to rural and remote sites within the Western NSW Local Health District with recent clinical experience working in an emergency, acute and/or aged care enviroment. 5) Demonstrated understanding of the difference is caring for an acute patient and a person who is living as a resident within a Multipurpose Health Service. 6) Required to have or willing to complete a First Line Emergency Care Certificate (FLECC) or equivalent within the first 12 months of employment. 7) Demonstrated understanding of current Infection Control, Work Health and Safety legislation safe, manual handling practices, quality assurance and the willingness to
participate in the accreditation process using the 10 National Standards. 8) A current licence to drive in NSW, with an ability and willingness to drive for work purposes.
