6 Talk About It With a Little Luck Playwright Tennessee Williams famously wrote, Luck is believing you re lucky. But some people believe special charms or certain actions can encourage luck. Use the following questions to start a discussion with your friends and family about how good fortune comes your way. What is your definition of luck? Do you believe luck can be influenced by something you do, such as wearing a lucky shirt or picking up a penny on the street? Do you have a lucky charm, a lucky number or a specific ritual that you believe brings you good fortune? If so, explain how it has brought you good luck. Do you believe some people are born lucky? Easter Eggs By: Brian Rosso, R.D. The Easter egg is a tradition that is celebrated around the world. Many people believe that the egg is a sign of rebirth. Originally, people would take great time and effort to paint and decorate eggs. However, over time, some people chose to use plastic eggs or chocolate eggs instead. Decorating Easter eggs dates back 2,500 years. Countries such as Russia, Romania and Poland still create very detailed colored eggs. Some people prefer tan Easter eggs, so they boil the eggs in water containing onion skins. In England, different colored yarns are also tied to the eggs to create a unique look. On Easter in the United Kingdom, painted eggs are rolled down steep hills for fun. In the United States, children roll eggs on the ground using a spoon, which is an annual event at the White House. Easter egg hunts are another famous tradition. Beeping Easter eggs are now used to allow the visually impaired the opportunity to also hunt for Easter eggs. Happy Easter!
7 Love Is Ageless Dance Thank you to all the family members who came out for our Love is Ageless dance. Fun was had by all who attended. Valentine s King and Queen The Valentine s King and Queen for the 2016 Valentine s Dance are Donald and Maxine. Congratulations to you both. Remember Me? She was a Southern girl whose singing talent and down-home charm made her a star. Look back at the life of Dinah Shore. She was born Frances Rose Shore on March 1, 1917, in Winchester, Tenn. While attending Vanderbilt University, she began performing regularly on a Nashville radio station. Shore changed her name to Dinah, inspired by the title of a popular song. In the 1940s, she had a string of hit records. Her first No. 1 song was I ll Walk Alone, which was a popular World War II-era ballad. Her signature song was See the USA in Your Chevrolet, the jingle for her TV variety program, which ran from 1956 to 1963. For two decades, she hosted several TV talk shows, including Dinah! and Dinah s Place.
