Introduction Urban Agriculture can be interpreted as farming activities that are implemented in the urban environment which usually has limited area. A solution for farming in the limited area can be achieved through intensive, efficient, and innovative ways of farming. Various technologies and solution have been developed to address such issue, such as hydroponics, aquaponics, verticulture, or even conventional ways planting that can be done in limited area condition (e.g., raised bed, pot gardening, using rooftops, etc). III. Objectives This online training course aims to enhance the awareness and understanding of target participants on the basic concepts of urban agriculture, and provide them with working knowledge on several urban agriculture technologies that could be implemented according to their existing local condition and environment. 1

Hydroponics/Aquaponics Production Techniques and Practices 4. Aquaculture Production Techniques and Practices 5. Soil-based Vegetable and Fruit Tree Gardening 6. Oyster Mushroom Production 7. Agri-based Enterprise Development 8. Documentation and Reporting of Best Practice in Urban Agriculture V. At the end of online workshop, what skills/knowledge participants will learn 1. Be able to articulate the concepts and principles of urban agriculture 2. Be able to understand the concepts, requirements, and procedures in implementing solid organic waste management and composting 3. Be able to understand the concepts and requirements in setting up and operating hydroponics and aquaponic production systems 4. Be able to understand the concepts and requirements in setting up and operating an aquaculture production system 5. Be able to understand the concepts, requirements and methods of soil-based vegetable and fruit tree gardening 6. Be able to understand the concepts, requirements and procedures in mushroom production 7. Be able to develop a business plan for agri-based products and services generated from technologies learned from the course 8. Be able to articulate the basic steps in documenting best practices in implementing urban agriculture VI. Schedule of online workshop 1. Number of hours in total: 16 hrs (or 2 hours per topic) 2. Expected outputs (At the end of the workshop, what participants will produce for competition?) For schools that are already implementing a particular urban agriculture technology or a combination of technologies, they are expected to develop an action plan to introduce improvements on their current production system as well as adjustment in their business plan to sustain it based on the knowledge they gained from the course. For schools that are yet to implement a particular urban agriculture technology or a combination of technologies, they are expected to develop their action plans to set up and operate their choice of urban agriculture technology, including a business plan to sustain it based on the knowledge they gained from the course. VIII. Online workshop schedule The course will be announced by 15 January 2018 and registration of interested participants/schools shall commence on 16 January 2018 until 16 February 2018. IX. Brief profile of targeted participants Students and teachers of Junior/Senior High Schools/Vocational High Schools or Polytechnic/Colleges in Southeast Asian countries X. Prerequisites (e.g. Basic knowledge and skills, programming knowledge, English ability) Spoken and written English proficiency XI. What participants need to bring along to join the online training Notebook/Personal Computer (for web conference purpose) System Requirement: Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 (32- or 64-bit) Minimum 4 GB RAM 16 GB of available disk space minimum, 32GB recommended XII. Maximum number of participants to be accepted for the online training (e.g. 100 participants) We will target at most 100 schools from SEAMEO member countries. Each school is expected to register 1 teacher as coordinator and maximum of 10 students. As much as possible, we will try to ensure a good distribution of participants among the SEAMEO member countries based on the registration. XIII. Details of Instructors/Facilitators 1. All participants shall be requested to accomplish the overall course evaluation form via online a day after the completion of the course. 2. All participating schools and individuals shall be given e-certificates for completing the online course and the overall course evaluation. 3. shall compile all expected outputs (action and business plans) from participating schools and write a completion report about the online course including a news article that will be uploaded in the Centre s website for public knowledge. 4. shall extend technical assistance to the winning schools until they are able to implement their action plans.
