New This Year: Sensory-Friendly Programming This summer, Pacific Science Center will be piloting Sensory- Friendly Camps. These camps are adapted for children with Sensory Processing Disorders and/or on the Autism Spectrum. We recommend choosing a Sensory-Friendly Camp for your child if they work better in a quieter, calmer space. Here is what you can expect from a Sensory-Friendly Camp: Reduction of loud sounds Availability of a sensory toolbox (including fidgets, headphones, timers, visual aids, etc.) Quiet zones or take a break space Auditory, visual and kinesthetic-tactile activities that maximize a child s ability to relax, learn and play Movement activities, i.e. stretching and breathing exercises, may be incorporated into schedule Supported transition times Look for the Sensory-Friendly symbol to identify these camp sessions. 2 CONTENTS «2018» PACSCI.ORG/SUMMER-CAMPS

OTHER PROGRAMS SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS Science Educators in Training at All Summer Camp Locations We are seeking responsible teen volunteers ages 14 18 to provide valuable assistance and mentoring of campers during the summer. Teen volunteers receive training, build their professional resume, meet high school service requirements and gain the rewarding experience of working with children and contributing to their community. This experience is especially valuable for teens who are interested in careers in science, technology or education. Teens must attend a mandatory training in May, and be able to commit to at least 60 hours during the summer. LOVE OUR SUMMER CAMPS? Pacific Science Center offers many more exciting opportunities for curious minds of all ages year-round! To learn more, visit pacsci.org or call (206) 443-2925. Parents Night Out Every month, spend the night out (or in!) while your child enjoys exploration of our exhibits, hands-on activities and a live science, planetarium or laser show. Participants are supervised in age groups by our experienced and enthusiastic staff. Girls Night Out Join us for an evening of exploring careers in STEM. Girls will engage with local female professionals and students from different STEM fields and participate in hands-on activities that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
