Idaho Public Television Idaho Public Television's internship program is designed to teach college students real world skills to become more marketable upon college graduation or to get a head start in their college career. We focus on two different types of internships. One internship is with Idaho Reports (January - June), which introduces college students to journalism in the political arena. The intern during this reporting period also had the opportunity to work on social media programs. The amount of time spent interning varies with each student's class schedule. The other internship is during the summer where students are introduced to all aspects of television production. Although the college internships are for credit only and some interns may have to seek paid employment elsewhere, individuals are encouraged to be at the Idaho Public Television facility as much as possible. Our internship program continues to be monitored and re-evaluated for its effectiveness, and will be expanded in future years to include more opportunities for college students in different areas at Idaho Public Television. In 215, the Idaho Department of Labor invited us to participate in an adult internship for either the long-term dislocated workers or displaced refugees. We have a longterm, displaced worker who is completing a television production internship (48 hours) and a displaced refugee also in a television production internship. Both have existing skills but need to broaden their competencies to become more employable in today's market. These interns are paid by the DOL grant and are not employees of our Agency. This has been a successful partnership we hope to continue. State of Idaho Division of Human Resources All classified positions are required to be announced and hired through the State of Idaho Division of Human Resources. A classified officer or employee means any person appointed to or holding a position in any department of the state of Idaho, which position is subject to the provisions of the merit examination, selection, retention, promotional and dismissal requirements of Title 67, Chapter 53 of Idaho Code. The State of Idaho Division of Human Resources' hiring process is very simple. If an announcement is published and a person would like to apply for it, he/she must be registered with the state in order to qualify. Applicants are then scored and placed on a register to be used by that agency to interview prospective candidates in hopes of finding a suitable candidate. The State of Idaho Division of Human Resources does not interview the candidates. 6

Also, state agencies are allowed to announce an opening for a classified position that is limited to that particular agency alone. The hiring process still goes through the State of Idaho Division of Human Resources but the announcement clearly states that the position is limited to employees of the agency that has an opening published. Workforce Diversity Idaho itself is not a highly diverse state. However, given our commitment to public broadcasting's special emphasis on serving under-served audiences, we believe we should work to attract a staff that represents our under-served populations. In our full-time staff of 6, we have the following groups represented: Executive Position Producer/Reporter/Host I\lative American Production Manager African American Human Resource Associate Pacific-Asian Office Specialist 2 Hispanic Administrative Assistant 1 Iranian Displace Refugee in Production Internship 1 female 3 females 1 male 1 male 1 female 1 female 1 male In the past year we have expanded the number of minority recruiting sources, and are actively committed to increasing female and minority candidates. COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS Participation in the activities sponsored by the following community groups active in broadcast employment issues: 1. Idaho State Broadcasters Association (ISBA) Activities include: Maintains website for employment activities: http://www.idahobroadcasters.org/employment.aspx Each year ISBA funds at least two $1, general scholarships and the Wayne C. Cornils Memorial Scholarship for less advantaged students. Applications are encouraged from students attending Idaho schools and preparing for a career in broadcasting. Such careers could include: business administration, sales, journalism, and engineering. http://www.idahobroadcasters.org/scholarships.aspx 2. Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Activities include: Involvement with SBE in which all interested parties are invited and encouraged to attend educational seminars. 3. University of Idaho School of Journalism and Mass Media (JAMM) Activities include: JAMM enjoys a close professional association with University of Idaho graduates and supporters through their advisory board. Advisory board members contribute their knowledge, vision and experience to enable JAMM to meet and exceed their goals and to help chart a successful course for the future. 7
