September 1, 2016 Dear Grade 7 Students and Parents, The Grade 7 Leadership Trip is a highlight for all Grade 7 students as they enter St. George s School. This year s three-day leadership adventure is scheduled from Wednesday, September 14 th to Friday, September 16 th. Students will begin with an interactive visit of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham at la Maison de la Découverte in Quebec City, and then proceed to Tadoussac where various leadership, natural, and marine science activities are planned. Students will be supervised by St. George s teachers and advisors. Students are responsible to bring a packed nut-free lunch on Wednesday, September 14 th. All other meals will be provided for students. This leadership experience allows our Grade 7 students begin to form a group identity as The Graduating Class of 2021. Activities and experiences during this trip are designed to help students discover more about their personality, character, courage and resolve. Students will acquire teamwork and leadership skills, bond with new and old friends and develop a sense of responsibility and respect for all as they get to know their advisors and teachers. 2016 Grade 7 Leadership Trip Itinerary Wednesday, September 14, 2016 6:45 a.m. Students should arrive at school 7:00 a.m. Bus leaves from St. George s High School 10:00 a.m. Approximate time of arrival in Québec. Exploration on the Plains of Abraham. 10:30 a.m. Meet Le Marquis de Montcalm and General Wolfe during the 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham at la Maison de la Découverte. St.Gs Human Scavenger Hunt Activity, then Lunch in a park (you'll bring it from home). 1:30 p.m. Bus leaves for Tadoussac 4:00 p.m. Arrive in Tadoussac and check-in at La Ferme 5 Étoiles. 5:00 p.m. Enjoy a traditional dinner at La Ferme 5 Étoiles. 6:30 p.m. Fire-building leadership activity. Learn to build your own fire, then reflect around the campfire 9:30 p.m. Spend the night at La Ferme 5 Étoiles Thursday, September 15, 2016 6:30 a.m. Breakfast and orientation with your tour leaders at La Ferme 5 Étoiles 7:30 a.m. Depart from the farm 8:00 a.m. Do you know the médiolittoral? Discover the fascinating world vacillating during the low tide. Observe and touch seaweeds, small shellfish, molds, sea urchins and several other present bodies in this housing environment. 12:30 p.m. Hop aboard a cruise to experience a whale watching adventure! Enjoy a lunch box prepared by La Ferme! 4:00 p.m. See how long you can hold your breath as compared with a whale. Listen to some entrancing underwater songs. Become an assistant researcher. And if you dare, touch the skull and teeth of a 13 metres long whale skeleton ''swimming'' overhead at the CIMM. 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a méchoui style barbecue at La Ferme 5 Étoiles! 7:30 p.m. Head back to camp and relax and unwind before bedtime. Attend another amazing campfire under the magnificent starry sky of Charlevoix. 9:30 p.m. Return to your rooms for a well-deserved night's rest.
Friday, September 16, 2016 6:30 a.m. Breakfast and orientation with your tour leader at La Ferme 5 Étoiles. 7:30 a.m. Visit the farm's land aboard a tractor. Take a detour to see the kennel and pet the malamuths. 8:30 a.m. Take an excursion down to the Sand Dunes. Imagine, they were created by the natural flow of wind and water. 9:30 a.m. Departure from the farm with all your luggage. 12:30 p.m. Walk the nature trails and suspended bridges at the Canyon des Chutes Ste-Anne, and complete the Rocambolesque treasure hunt. Enjoy a delicious boxed lunch, provided by Canyon Sainte-Anne restaurant. 3:00 p.m. Depart and head back to St. George s High School 6:30 p.m. Approximate time of arrival at St. George s High School
2016 Grade 7 Leadership Trip Regulations Packing List Regulations The following regulations have been adopted to ensure students to get the most out of this trip. Cell phones, CD players, ipods, ipads and other devices are to be left at home. All curfews and similar restrictions must be strictly obeyed. All St. George s rules and regulations of conduct apply. The supervising adults will have final authority in all matters. Students will advise a Trip Leader immediately should any personal health issue arise. We expect that our students will conduct themselves in a responsible manner at all times with respect to room cleanliness, behavior, consideration of others and non-disruptiveness, in accordance with the St. George s Student/Parent Handbook. In particular, we ask that students review the Respectful Behavior and Overnight School Trip policy in the Student/Parent Handbook. Packing List We recommend that the students bring the following items (please label). LEADERSHIP TRIP GRADE 7 Wednesday, September 14 to Friday, September 16, 2016 PERMISSION FORM AND MEDICAL RELEASE I give my child permission to (Print student s full name) participate in the Grade 7 Leadership Trip, and I am fully aware and approve of the applicable behavior regulations.
