The Partnership Wellness Initiatives Network for Alaska, Inc. (WIN for Alaska) and University of Alaska s (UA s) stragetic partnership will establish a culture of wellness at UA
WIN for Alaska Owners are lifelong Alaskans Providing services to Alaskans for over eight years Encouraging people through positive behavior changes ALL information will be kept CONFIDENTIAL
Our Philosophy Education, awareness, and behavior modification results in a culture of wellness when done with the right tools and communication
Our Objective Decrease in UA s most prevalent health risks (designated by the 2005 HRA) Nutrition Obesity Depression Cardiovascular Disease Stress
Our Focus Increase awareness of health risks Reduce the number of health risks Increase participation of health behaviors Provide a supportive environment for lifestyle changes Increase employee satisfaction and morale Serve as a model for promoting healthy lifestyles
In Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau We will provide monthly Onsite Seminars, Events, Workshops, and Health Accountability Groups
In locations with more than 20 faculty and staff We will provide semi-annual site visits and regular communications via mail, website, email, telephone, internet, and video conferencing
Participation All health plan eligible faculty and staff are eligible for the wellness program Participation is voluntary Events will normally be provided during regular work hours
Beginning in December We will send out a Staff and Faculty Interest Survey It can be completed online or at an events. It will assess times, days, and groups with similar interests
Targeted Emails We will send Monthly Emails to Defined Interest Groups encouraging attendance at Seminars, Events, Workshops, and Health Accountability Groups
Defined Interest Groups Groups will be voluntarily identified through surveys, calls, programs, and Health Accountability Groups These groups will be encouraged to exercise together, have accountability, and connect at programs and workshops
Lists of Resources We will compile a healthy resource list for you specific to your community For example, local community contacts with the American Red Cross, American Diabetes Association, Employee Assistance Plan Resources, etc.
Internal resources for the wellness program We will develop partnerships within UA with Nursing Science, Athletic, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physical Education, Medical Technology, Human Services, and other departments
Seminars We will help you understand the importance of preventive screenings
Physical Fitness Events may include body fat analysis, blood pressure, lung capacity, flexibility test, etc. Appointments and fees may be required for some services
Flu Shot Clinic We will organize onsite Flu Shot Clinics. The fee for the flu shots will be your responsibility
Stress Reduction Seminars and Events may include topics like stretching, ergonomics, relaxation breathing, muscle relaxation, getting organized, better communication, anger management, and/or the incorporation of tools such as stress thermometers, etc.
Nutrition Seminars may include topics like reading a food guide pyramid, reading food labels, meal planning, healthy snacks, and/or eating out, etc.
Participation Programs Wellness walks between June and September During the winter months, other options will be considered Participation Programs will help you build Personal Health In Action Plans to help with behavior changes You will can work on your plans during seminars, events, and team building workshops
On-site Cholesterol and Blood Testing We will provide a free lipid profile (Total Cholesterol TC, Triglycerides-TRC, HDL and LDL Cholesterol, Glucose, and APT liver function test) Wellness Consultants will be available to discuss your results after the screening The screening results can also be entered into your next HRA for a more detailed report
Annual Health Fairs We will organize annual Health Fairs in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau Health Fairs can include vendors/booths such as the American Red Cross, the American Diabetes Association, health clubs, massage therapists, organizational specialists, examples of whole foods, etc.
Annual Health Risk Assessment Meetings We will organize meetings that address the major findings of the previous health risk assessment
Personal Improvement Programs Target exercise design, weight management, smoking cessation, and cholesterol reduction They also utilize a combination of assessments, interventions, and analyses to provide you with multiple options for reaching your goals
Personal Health In Action Plans We will help you work through your Personal Health in Action Plan We will work with professional community resources as well as UA s disease management and health plan provider to provide you with additional resources We will create partnerships between the faculty and staff with similar interest for your support
Follow Up Calls for Participants A call or email may follow our events so that Health Coaches can provide continual guidance to you if you have questions
Incentives Incentive prizes will be given to you for reaching your Personal Health In Action Plan goals and recording your progress in the Health Activity Tracker (HAT)
How Will it All Work? Health Activity Tracker (HAT) and Online Wellness Center (OWC) These sites are your portal resources. From a link on UA intranet site you will be able to access surveys, calendars of events, your Personal Health In Action Improvement Plan, health education materials, etc.
