In 16+ seasons, the Big 12 boasts an all-time record of 1,992-694 (.742) versus schools outside the Big 12. Big 12 teams combined for an amazing home record over the last four seasons, posting a 303-10 (.968) record versus non-conference foes in their home arenas. League squads have won 258 of the last 267 nonconference home matchups dating back to 2009-10. All but one of the teams in the Big 12 have been ranked in the top 25 since 2007, with eight of the 10 league schools receiving top 25 rankings in the past three seasons. At least one Big 12 school has been ranked every week in league history - a span of 307 consecutive weeks. Over the last five years, the Big 12 has won 61.8 percent of its games in NCAA play. The win percentage leads the nation during that time. The Big 12 has been ranked in the top three of the final RPI in each of the past five seasons. It is the only conference in the country that can make that claim. Big 12 Men s Basketball November 10, 2012 BAYLOR (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) Junior Cory Jefferson recorded career highs with 26 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Lehigh. It was his second career double-double as he finished 12-of-16 from the field. Senior guard Pierre Jackson dished out 12 assist versus the Mountain Hawks, finishing with 14 points. It was the sixth double-digit assist game of his career, twice the total of any other active Big 12 player. Baylor is 9-1 in regular season home openers under head coach Scott Drew and 45-7 in its last 52 home games. The Bears are 37-6 in the month of November under Drew and have won 20 straight November games at home. KANSAS (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) KU has won 40-straight Allen Fieldhouse season-opening games, dating back to the 1973-74 season. The Jayhawks are 10-0 in openers under head coach Bill Self and are 146-7 (.954) at home during his tenure in Lawrence. Senior center Jeff Withey finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks versus Southeast Missouri State. He has 170 career rejections and has had three or more in a game 23 times in his career. Freshman Ben McLemore collected 12 rebounds in his Kansas debut, becoming the first Jayhawk with double-digit rebounds in their first career game since Markieff Morris (15 boards vs. UMKC on Nov. 16, 2008). OKLAHOMA (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) Oklahoma returns 88 percent of its points, 81 percent of its rebounds and 78 percent of its blocks from last season. The Sooners will have their top six scorers from 2011-12 on the court again this year. Senior forward Romero Osby scored in double figures in the last seven games of 2011-12, averaging 15.1 points during that span. He also ranked first on the team and sixth in the Big 12 in rebounding (7.3 rpg) for the year. Coach Lon Kruger needs six victories to notch 500 for his career and ranks 21st among active NCAA coaches. He is the only active mentor to lead at least four schools to NCAA Tournament wins. TCU (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) Junior forward Amric Fields led the Horned Frogs with 16 points against Cal Poly, his 27th career double-figure performance. He connected on 6-of-10 shots from the field. Senior forward Garlon Green has scored in double figures in three straight games dating back to last season and 48 times overall. He is the Frogs active career leader in games played (98), starts (58), points (839) and rebounds (347). Trent Johnson became the sixth straight TCU head coach to win his first game directing the program, with the school improving to 14-7 all-time in debut games for a new coach. TCU won its seventh straight season opener overall. TEXAS TECH (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) Sophomore Jordan Tolbert recorded his 17th career double-digit scoring performance in the win over Prairie View. He finished the night with 16 points and seven rebounds and was 7-of-7 from the floor. Tech scored 50 points in a half for the first time since netting 54 points in the second session against Georgia Southern on Nov. 23, 2010. The 89 total points were more than the Red Raiders scored in any game last season. Texas Tech won its season opener for the 13th consecutive year, improving the Red Raiders record to 13-1 in season openers at United Spirit Arena. Overall, Tech is 61-27 in the opening game. IOWA STATE (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) The Cyclones recorded their 15th-straight season-opening victory with the win over Southern. Iowa State also extended its home court winning streak to eight games overall. Three players finished with double-doubles for ISU - Percy Gibson (17 points, 10 rebounds), Will Clyburn (16 pts, 10 rebs) and Georges Niang (15 pts, 12 rebs). Both of Gibson s totals were career highs. Iowa State outrebounded Southern, 59-33, while five different players connected on 3-pointers. The Cyclones led the Big 12 in 3-pointers and 3-point attempts a year ago. KANSAS STATE (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) Sophomores Thomas Gipson and Angel Rodriguez led four K-State players in double figures with 13 points against North Dakota. Thirteen different Wildcats saw action, with 11 of them scoring in the game. Kansas State is now 85-24 (.780) all-time in season openers, including a 73-8 (.901) mark at home. The Wildcats have won 10 consecutive season openers since 2003. Head coach Bruce Weber is the 17th of 24 head coaches in Kansas State history to win his debut. He has 314 victories in his career, one of five Big 12 coaches with at least 300 wins. OKLAHOMA STATE (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) Junior Markel Brown and sophomore Le Bryan Nash led Oklahoma State with 16 points each versus UC Davis. The duo were two of four Cowboys that finished in double figures. Freshman Marcus Smart finished with seven assists, tied for the fifth-most by a Cowboy freshman in school history and the most in a season-opener. He added eight points and seven rebounds with just one turnover. Oklahoma State is 92-12 all-time in home openers, including a streak of 38 consecutive wins. The Cowboys are also 80-24 all-time in season-opening contests. TEXAS (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) Sophomore guard Sheldon McClellan led Texas with 20 points against Fresno State, including two free throws with 8.9 seconds left to seal the win. He made 14-of-14 from the line in the game overall. Texas tied a school record for most freshman starters in a season-opener for the second consecutive season. Javan Felix, Ioannis Papapetrou and Cameron Ridley were in the opening lineup versus the Bulldogs. UT is 88-19 in season-opening games, including a 13-2 mark under head coach Rick Barnes. The Longhorns are also 207-19 in the Barnes era when holding opponents to under 40 percent field goal shooting. WEST VIRGINIA (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) The Mountaineers have three transfers from Division I schools that will make their WVU debut against Gonzaga - Aaric Murray (La Salle), Juwan Staten (Dayton) and Matt Humphrey (Boston College). West Virginia has wins over 20 nationally-ranked opponents in the tenure of head coach Bob Huggins. Eight of those victories have been versus top 10 foes in the last four-plus seasons. Huggins has earned a NCAA bid in each of his last five seasons in Morgantown, the first time since 1955-60 that WVU has accomplished the feat in five consecutive campaigns.
