Overview: The Nexus Enterprise & The Summit ABOUT THE NEXUS The EnergyWaterFoodNexus is a new science enterprise launched at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University through a global public-private partnership that seeks to provide sustainable and innovative solutions for energy, water and food security. The nexus approach is based on the premise that an action in one sector impacts the other. Therefore, the search for solutions must simultaneously investigate all three elements in a new science enterprise. Summit Themes & Tracks NEW SCIENCE ENTERPRISE This track will highlight research within and across disciplines focusing on existing and emerging knowledge about energy, water and food production. The nexus approach is based on the premise that an action in one sector impacts the other. Therefore, presentations and panel discussions in this track will promote consideration of interrelationships and synergies, with an emphasis upon solutions-focused research, and inclusion of international approaches. ACCELERATED INNOVATION This track will highlight innovative solutions to advancing efficiencies and sustainability in meeting energy, water and agricultural needs. Sessions will feature presentations from business, industry, or social entrepreneurs who are applying technology-based applications and innovative processes to address nexus challenges. At Florida A&M, sustainability is more than a buzzword; it has been a part of our history since designation as a Land Grant agricultural university in 1890. As a research institution with expertise in renewable energy, water quality and food science, we will lead the charge on the nexus approach by breaking silos to spark creative collaborations and accelerate innovation, while training a future generation of problem solvers. SCIENCE BASED POLICY & DECISION MAKING This track will address the role governments and organizations can play in advancing nexus-informed solutions through policy and programmatic support, as well as challenges faced in introducing new standard policies and practices. IDEA HACKS Solving complex problems requires multidisciplinary and diverse perspectives. During the Idea Hack segment of the Summit, stakeholders will pitch their problem or challenge around energy, water, and food themes, and participants will be invited to help solve them.
