Nearly 52 acres (21 hectares) Expected to create in excess of 1,000 new jobs by 2025/26 Site could accommodate up to 100,000m2 of innovative new business space (mainly B1/B2) and related facilities in a range of configurations and sizes, subject to detailed planning. The adopted Masterplan for the airport site provides for remodelling the operational airport, releasing around 21 hectares of predominantly greenfield land for redevelopment in two main parcels to the west and south of the airport. Detailed planning approval is expected in summer 2016, with new premises available from late 2017/early 2018. The vision is to grow high quality, high value businesses specialising in the advanced manufacturing, engineering and digital technologies, including hybrid space for prototyping, research and development and industry-standard training. The zone will capitalise on Medway s existing strengths as a centre for advanced manufacturing and engineering - as home to major technology companies such as BAE Systems - and well-established links with the University of Greenwich s Faculty of Engineering and Science. It will offer new opportunities for clustering of companies supplying into globally-important markets and collaborative ventures utilising shared services and facilities. Likely sector focus: advanced manufacturing, engineering (particularly automotive and aerospace), digital technologies, med-tech. Rochester Airport is located within the Medway-Swale Arc Assisted Area, so there may be scope to offer businesses the incentive of enhanced capital allowances as an alternative to business rate discounts on a specified part of the site.
