THE YOUNG MARINE PROGRAM Charlotte Detachment 750 is the proud sponsor and supporter of the MECKLEBURG COUNTY YOUNG MARINES. Detachment members are invited and are encourage to visit the Young Marines meetings at UNCC Charlotte Campus. MISSION: The Young Marines (YM) program is the drug demand reduction effort of the Marine Corp League and the United States Marine Corps. The official mission of the Young Marines is: To promote the mental, moral and physical development of its members. To instill in its members the ideals of honesty, fairness, courage, respect, dependability, attention to duty, love of God, country, and family. To stimulate an interest in and respect for, academic achievement and the history and traditions of the United States of America. To promote physical fitness through physical activities, including participation in athletic events and close order drill. To advocate a drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines program is run in a military fashion using similar staff structure, courtesies, customs, and discipline as the US Marine Corps. The Marine Corps enlisted rank system is used in the NEW CALENDAR TBA program--young Marines wear the same uniform and enlisted rank insignia as members of the US Marines Corps, with the addition of Young Marine patches. Young Marines work toward ribbons for personal achievement similar to badges earned in other youth programs. They also work towards promotions in rank. Rank promotions require positive reports from the Young Marine s teachers and parents; mastering knowledge and skills outlined in the Young Marine guide book; and meeting physical fitness requirements. STAFF The Mecklenburg County Young Marines is the preeminent unit in the Charlotte area. Our staff consists of adult volunteers who are current and former marines who believe passionately that the values they learned as Marines had a positive effect on them. Other adult volunteers are involved in college military programs or have experienced the military lifestyle. It is through these caring adults that Young Marines learn the inner values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. MECKLENBURG COUNTY YOUNG MARINES Calendar Mecklenburg County Young Marines Meet two Saturdays a month from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm UNC-Charlotte Student Union Center

YOUNG MARINE REPORT Members of Marine Corps League Detachment # 750 attended the Charlotte Unit of Young Marines Graduation that was held on August 24th. After the Colors had been posted Master Sergeant Walter Padgett was introduced and recognized as the one who started their unit, and the Marine Corps League Detachment # 750 was the one that is supporting then financially for most of the training and travel expenses. The unit now has 30 plus Young Marines and today two of the Young Marines were promoted to Sergeant from Corporal and seven were promoted from Lance Corporal to Corporal and one was promoted to Private First Class. They are slow in growing but they are obviously being trained in discipline, close order drill and depending on each other for help. These Young Marines are learning to be good students and to assist those that need assistance. It is obvious that they are receiving something that we all need and that is being kind to one another, help those that need help, be kind to those who might be less fortunate. After the promotions were given and ribbons for their good work for kind deeds for others had been given we were invited to come in for a sit down brunch that had been prepared by the parents. I know you would enjoy being at one of the graduations as these Young Marines will remind you of P.I. or San Diego. Semper Fi.
