As we close out the calendar year, I want to thank all of our comrades and auxiliary members who have given so much of their time and effort to support our Post. To all of our volunteers, thank you for your dedication. Without you, we wouldn t have a Post nor could we accomplish so much to help veterans in need. That the telephone, internet and face-book industry say that if you have a Smart-Phone, you are checking that phone an average of 85 times a day. How do they know that??? Tell me big brother isn t watching!!! WANNA BE A COOTIE..Bet you didn t know there is another organization within the VFW (no-not the Auxiliary). It is the Military Order of the Cootie. They are actually an Auxiliary known as the Honor Degree. They are established within some Posts (Pup Tents) around the country and all Department (state) level VFW Headquarters (Grand Pup Tents). Even though they are established at the State level, they do not fall under the State Headquarters. They have their own top-down, chain of command leadership, starting at their Supreme Headquarters
(with names like Seam-Squirrel). They have their own committees. Their own annual convention (a Scratch), and their own style of dress (see below). To gain membership to this very worthwhile organization. All you have to be is a member in good standing for at least six (6) months, go through an approval process, and most importantly, you are actively engaged in helping veterans (most Cootie s volunteer at VA Hospitals, Clinics and VA homes). Their primary mission is hospital work. Keeping them smiling in Bed of White! Their motto. To become a Cootie, you must contact either The Grand Commander or the Membership Chairman of the Grand MOC. To find out more about the Cootie s, visit the SC VFW web site and click on MOC in left column of home page, check out a Manual of Procedures or go to supremehqmoc@lotcs.org.

North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley addressing the audience at the 2017 Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the N. Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. Over 200 attended. This event is co-hosted by American Legion Post 186 and VFW Post 10804. YOUR Post has an action packed December. Check out the Post Calendar, the Post Web-Site or our Facebook page. Better yet! Come by the Post and say HI!! NEED A HAIRCUT???? Consider SPORTS CLIPS for your next visit to the barber shop. Sports Clips supports veterans by providing part of their profits to help various veteran projects. You can also donate $1.00 when you get your haircut to help veterans. There is a Sports Clips on Hwy 17 in shopping center just South of NMB Main Street (next to Dunkin Donuts. RECRUITING: I take my hand-made sign with me to a couple of functions (especially at Poppy time). I come equipped with VFW membership applications, Auxiliary applications and Legacy Life applications. Just be sure you come equipped to be able to tell a person (war veteran) why it is important for them to be a member of the VFW.
However you may celebrate/commemorate the upcoming holiday season. VFW Post 10804 hopes that it will be good to you. We wish all our veterans and their families the best possible 2018 and beyond! Bill La Monte Writer/Editor 4william6@gmail.com 252-308-3507
