NORTH MYRTLE BEACH POST 10804 111 HWY 57 NORTH LITTLE RIVER, SC 29566 343-399-0877 WELCOME NEW MEMBERS..BUD McGUINNES, ROBERT HOYT & JOHN DOBBS!! Bud, it was great to see you attend your first meeting as a new Post 10804 member. Robert & John, we hope to see you at the Post soon to enjoy many of the things YOUR Post has to offer. This calendar year is about over and YOUR VFW Post has had quite an active year that has seen the Post involved in many activities and events. Several of them have brought recognition to the Post. These things cannot happen without YOU being involved. The Post has a small core of volunteers who are committed to the Post and making sure that whatever the Post does, it is done successfully. We invite you to join us in 2018. Get Involved, Make a Difference!!! COMMANDER S CALL: How many of us remember being away from our families and friends during the holidays while we were on active duty? It was never easy back then and some things never change. Please remember to keep our troops in your hearts and your prayers during the holidays..and always. As we close out the calendar year, I want to thank all of our comrades and auxiliary members who have given so much of their time and effort to support our Post. To all of our volunteers, thank you for your dedication. Without you, we wouldn t have a Post nor could we accomplish so much to help veterans in need. Thank you so much for your selfless giving to our Post. We ve accomplished much but there is so much to do in 2018 as we approach the 100 th anniversary since the end of the war to end all wars WW I. What will you do in this coming year to help us help veterans? Come to our meetings and find out. WANT TO BE CONSTANTLY IN TOUCH WITH EVERYTHING HAPPENING IN THE VFW??? Then sign up for the VFW ACTION CORPS WEEKLY e-newsletter and all VFW ACTION ALERTS. Just go to: www.vfw.org/actioncorps. All of us who are military retirees are on some form of Tri- Care. There are two very informative articles on TRI-CARE in the 18 November edition. Check them out!

THE POST and the MEMBERSHIP. We had a very busy November with several events staged during the month, including our Poppy fund-raiser - our primary means of income for our Relief Fund used only to help veterans in need. We also hosted a Power of Three luncheon/fundraiser coordinating with the Legion Post 186 and our local Elks Lodge as well as our traditional Veterans Day meal. If you missed being in the Post in November, you missed a good time. Please come by in December and have a meal or attend one of our functions. Find them on the monthly calendar and on our website: www.vfwpost10804.org YOUR Post co-hosted Veterans Day remembrances with American Legion Post 186 at the N. Myrtle Beach Sports Complex at their Veteran s Memorial Garden. Other participants included the American Legion Color Guard with their 21 Gun Salute, Rolling Thunder & Legion Riders, Knights of Columbus Assembly 2431 Our Lady Star of the Sea, a stunning father/son duo playing Taps, and about 200 guests. North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley was our guest speaker. SPECIAL THANKS to all the volunteers who helped make this salute to all veterans possible. IT S A FACT.. That the first aerial refueling took place in June 1923 by two Army pilots, Lt. Lowell Smith and Lt. John Richter DISTRICT MEETING. Your POST is part of District 7 (there are 8 VFW Districts in the state of S.C.). On Saturday December 2 nd, there will be a District meeting at Myrtle Beach Post 7735 starting at 10AM. The Post meets at the Community Center at 1268 21 st Ave. N. (near Pelican Park). Come out and see how a Districts works and how your Post interacts within the District. As a bonus, we ll feed you lunch after the meeting. POST 10804 MEETING. While you re at it, don t forget to attend the Post 10804 Business Meeting on Saturday, December 9 th. We re having a special Fire Safety presentation in a joint meeting with the Auxiliary at 10:30 followed by our regular monthly meeting at 11 a.m. DID YOU KNOW. That the telephone, internet and face-book industry say that if you have a Smart-Phone, you are checking that phone an average of 85 times a day. How do they know that??? Tell me big brother isn t watching!!! WANNA BE A COOTIE..Bet you didn t know there is another organization within the VFW (no-not the Auxiliary). It is the Military Order of the Cootie. They are actually an Auxiliary known as the Honor Degree. They are established within some Posts (Pup Tents) around the country and all Department (state) level VFW Headquarters (Grand Pup Tents). Even though they are established at the State level, they do not fall under the State Headquarters. They have their own top-down, chain of command leadership, starting at their Supreme Headquarters

(with names like Seam-Squirrel). They have their own committees. Their own annual convention (a Scratch), and their own style of dress (see below). To gain membership to this very worthwhile organization. All you have to be is a member in good standing for at least six (6) months, go through an approval process, and most importantly, you are actively engaged in helping veterans (most Cootie s volunteer at VA Hospitals, Clinics and VA homes). Their primary mission is hospital work. Keeping them smiling in Bed of White! Their motto. To become a Cootie, you must contact either The Grand Commander or the Membership Chairman of the Grand MOC. To find out more about the Cootie s, visit the SC VFW web site and click on MOC in left column of home page, check out a Manual of Procedures or go to supremehqmoc@lotcs.org.

Pictured below is the current Military Order of the Cootie Supreme Commander

North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley addressing the audience at the 2017 Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the N. Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. Over 200 attended. This event is co-hosted by American Legion Post 186 and VFW Post 10804. YOUR Post has an action packed December. Check out the Post Calendar, the Post Web-Site or our Facebook page. Better yet! Come by the Post and say HI!! NEED A HAIRCUT???? Consider SPORTS CLIPS for your next visit to the barber shop. Sports Clips supports veterans by providing part of their profits to help various veteran projects. You can also donate $1.00 when you get your haircut to help veterans. There is a Sports Clips on Hwy 17 in shopping center just South of NMB Main Street (next to Dunkin Donuts. RECRUITING: I take my hand-made sign with me to a couple of functions (especially at Poppy time). I come equipped with VFW membership applications, Auxiliary applications and Legacy Life applications. Just be sure you come equipped to be able to tell a person (war veteran) why it is important for them to be a member of the VFW.

However you may celebrate/commemorate the upcoming holiday season. VFW Post 10804 hopes that it will be good to you. We wish all our veterans and their families the best possible 2018 and beyond! Bill La Monte Writer/Editor 4william6@gmail.com 252-308-3507
