Article Submission Guidelines Who can submit an article? Anyone who plays an active role in research at the SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC, e.g. clinician scientists, clinician investigators, research fellows & officers, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, biomedical engineers, technologists, project managers, data analysts, research administrators, trial coordinators, lab & research assistants & coordinators, etc. What are the guidelines? Article length is to be around 500 to 800 words. Articles may be accompanied by diagrams/images. The topic must be of interest and relevance to the biomedical and healthcare research community. Avoid the use of technical jargon. The writing style is to be clear and concise. All citations should be in endnotes and not in the text. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission for the use of any copyrighted material, including images. Font type & size: Arial 11 Acceptable file types: MS Word or PDF for articles; jpg or png for images 2

4 Article Submission Guidelines How to submit an article for consideration? Send an email message with the article and any accompanying graphics as attachments to office.research@singhealth.com.sg Use Voices @ Research Article Submission" as the subject of the message. The message should include author s biosketch, high-res photo & contact details Article title Article length (number of words) What are the qualities that the editorial team look out for when evaluating articles for publishing? Authenticity : The author must have sufficient practical knowledge of the subject matter. Expertise: It is not enough to know the subject deeply; the author has to prove it to the reader. Refer to supporting research, describing relevant examples, and highlight any interesting data. Originality: For well-worn topics, the author must present a unique perspective or refreshing insight. Relevance: Articles that clearly illustrate how the author s experience or opinion will be applicable or significant to our research community will be more powerful. Readability: Members of our research community are busy people, so the author must capture their interest within the first two paragraphs of the article. Writing should be persuasive and a pleasure to read.
Article Submission Guidelines Who is on the editorial team? SingHealth Office of Research will seek guidance from relevant domain knowledge experts when necessary. What happens if my article is selected? The editorial team will edit all selected articles for grammar, language and spelling, and respective authors will be notified accordingly ahead of publishing. Where will the article be published? Research weekly e-bulletin SingHealth Research website AMRI website *When articles are published on platforms other than those listed above, permission will be sought from the authors before publication. 5
