MILES OF PENNIES GUIDELINES The MILES OF PENNIES (MOP) Fund of the Church Periodical Club (CPC) is a national project sponsored by the Episcopal Dioceses. It was introduced in 1989 to meet the religious or secular book needs of children worldwide, pre-school to grade 12. Here's how you can help. What is qranted? Grants are made for books (printed or taped), videos, audiovisual materials, and for shipping and handling costs of recycled books. The specific material (title, edition or subject), its cost, and where the material can be obtained (country, publisher, or book store) are usually determined by the recipient. Material may he rel.igious or secular but mi-1st. be for children. Grants are given for equipment (such as projectors or shelves), operating expenses (such as stationery), or to produce material (such as translations or printing). who is eliqible? Any organization or individual affiliated with the Anglican Communion may apply. That children will be using the requested material must be established. There must be financial need. HOW do I apply? Uhen will I know if I've received a qrant? Grants are awarded year round. Within one month of receipt of the grant request, applicants are sent a letter by the Miles of Pennies committee chairman announcing the response to their application. The size of approved grants depends on funds available and the number of requests being considered. What will I receive2 Grants are administered in the form of materials shipped or in money transferred. If money (usually a check in US$) is sent, the recipient is asked to send receipts for the materials purchased or the shipping costs of recycled books. Any funds not used within a year of the approval date shall be returned to the CPC National Office and revert to the Miles of Pennies Fund. 8/94 MOPGDLIN

IN 1989, THE CPC NATIONAL BOARD VOTED TO SET UP A SEPARATE FUND DEVOTED ENTIRELY TO PROVIDING BOOKS FOR CHILDREN, GRADES PRE- SCHOOL TO GRADE 1 2. THIS FUND HAS BEEN A SUCCESS IN THAT WE HAVE GIVEN GRANTS TO OVER TWENTY ORGANIZATIONS, SCHOOLS, HEAD START PROGRAMS AND JUST GOOD PRIVATE PROJECTS OF ALL DENOMINATIONS. NATIONAL GRANT GUIDELINES For more than 100 years, the Church Periodical Club has participated in the Church's mission to spread the Gospel by providing printed materials. This Ministry of the Printed Word is done by awarding grants through the National Books Fund and Mile of Pennies, designed exclusively for children's needs. What is qranted? Grants are made for books, maaazines. audio and video materials and computer software. The specific materials are determine; and purchased by the recipients. d ate rials may be religious or secular. but must be used within the work of the Church. Grafits are not given fof equipment, (such as projectors, computers or shelves) operating expenses, (such as postage and stationery) or for the production of material (such as translations or printing). Who is eligible? Any organization or individual whose work is affiliated with the Anglican Communion may apply. Organizations may be eligible if the Anglican bishop in the appropriate area endorses the request and shows its relationship to the priorities of that diocese. The need for materials to carry out the mission of the Church must be established for all requests and there must be financial need. NBF grants are not awarded for the same project more than three years in a row; MOP limits grants to two consecutive years. How do I applv?.. Obtain and complete a grant application form. The MOP form can be signed by anyone adivsirr U- for a grant within the United States, but it, too, requires a bishop's endorsement if the recipient is outside the U.S. When will I know if I've received a want? NBF grants are awarded twice each year, spring and fall, and recipients receive a letter shortly after the granting. MOP grant applications are considered as they are received and grants are awarded immediately. Letters are sent immediately. What will I receive? Checks are mailed or money is electronically transferred to bank accounts. Recipients are asked to send receipts for purchasks.
