PACIFIC STANDARD TIME: LA/LA FESTIVAL APPLICATION CALL FOR PROPOSALS For a January 2018 international festival of live art and performance art as part of the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA Initiative REDCAT invites organizations and artists in Southern California to propose projects to be included in an international festival of live art and performance art to be held in Los Angeles. The January 2018 festival presented in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, an initiative of The Getty. REDCAT is pleased to be overseeing and facilitating the creation of the festival, which will add to the impact of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles, to be presented at more than 70 Southern California organizations from September 2017 through January 2018. With major funding from the Getty Foundation, REDCAT will provide financial support and other forms of technical and production assistance, when needed, for performancebased projects selected for inclusion in the 2018 festival in Los Angeles. This wide-ranging international festival will celebrate and enhance the important themes and goals of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, and create a wide range of opportunities for community engagement with art and artists from Latin America and Greater Los Angeles. During the January 2018 festival (preliminary dates are January 11 to 21, 2018), artists from Latin America and the U.S. will be featured in more than 25 distinct programs in multiple locations at participating institutions, as well as at other designated Festival sites in Greater Los Angeles. Programs may range from large-scale site-specific works or happenings to multi-artist evenings of solo and small-ensemble performance art presented in a club-like atmosphere. Projects may range from new work by contemporary artists to historical re-creations or responses to historical performances. Project support will generally be allocated to non-profit organizations, but projects may also be proposed by unincorporated artists and artistic ensembles, which would be eligible to receive performance honoraria or partial commissioning or production support. Funding amounts will generally range from $2,000 for individual artist honoraria, up to

$25,000 of funding for larger productions. Funds will rarely cover more than 50% of total project expenses. Project support may be in the form of a financial allocation, or a combination of direct financial support and production/technical assistance, especially for projects presented at a festival-operated venue. TO APPLY 1. Read the Criteria below and the FAQ s webpage. 2. Download and review this sample application. 3. Prepare your answers on a text document. 4. Start and submit the ONLINE APPLICATION. DEADLINE January 12, 2017, 11:59pm PT +++ For questions and inquiries: info.redcat@calarts.edu CRITERIA Proposals will be evaluated by a review panel based on multiple criteria, including: The vitality of the work of the artist and the proposed project; The importance of the work to the larger Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA goals of exploring important developments in Latino and Latin American art and performance in dialogue with Los Angeles; The extent to which the project represents a fresh and distinct artistic perspective as part of the dynamic conversation about the past, present and future of performance art and the evolution of the forms; The way the project contributes to the diversity of scales, forms, traditions, themes and subject matter; The potential for the work to engage diverse audiences ranging from performances that may be intended only for mature audiences, to events that can engage families and larger communities; The logistical, technical and infrastructure capacity of the applicant organization to successfully realize the project; The impact of the project on the public, the field at large, the organization or the artist; including the importance of the project to the artist s career.

The proposal should be accompanied by a project description addressing the following questions (not to exceed 3 pages): Artist(s) and projects proposed. Please include a bio or a link to more information about the artist(s) and project. How does the artist and project relate to the general goals of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA? Location (if you have not identified a location or venue, please describe the sort of venue that would be suitable/desired. The Festival may operate and equip some venues to accommodate multiple projects). Scale of the work and general technical needs (sound? video? stage size? special needs? special effects (haze, smoke, flame?) General estimate of overall project cost, and any pre-identified sources of income (a detailed budget is not required at this time, but please give us a sense of the anticipated needs). Organizational description and mission Is your organization currently involved in another Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA project or exhibition? Is that project receiving funding from the Getty Foundation? How does the project you are proposing now relate to your organization s exhibition project? ABOUT PACIFIC STANDARD TIME: LA/LA Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA is a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles taking place from September 2017 through January 2018 at arts institutions across Southern California. Through a series of thematically linked exhibitions and programs, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA highlights different aspects of Latin American and Latino art from the ancient world to the present day. With topics such as luxury objects in the pre-hispanic Americas, 20thcentury Afro-Brazilian art, alternative spaces in Mexico City, and boundary-crossing practices of Latino artists, exhibitions range from monographic studies of individual artists to broad surveys that cut across numerous countries. Initiated through more than $15 million in grants from the Getty Foundation, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA involves more than 70 cultural institutions, from Los Angeles to Palm Springs, and from San Diego to Santa Barbara. Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA is an initiative of the Getty. The presenting sponsor is Bank of America.
