AO Officer Nomination Form Pre-President-Elect of the The President-Elect is nominated by the Nominating Committee one year prior to his election and is elected by the Board of Trustees for a period of two years. Upon expiration of his term of office, the President-Elect will normally be elected by the Board of Trustees as the new President of the Foundation. The election process of the Pre-President-Elect is outlined in the policy The Election of a new President Elect, approved by the AOVA on December 12, 2009, updated on September 24, 2010, and published at the portal, section About AO, Organization and Governance, Board of Directors (AOVA). Inauguration of the function of a Pre-President-Elect provides increased planning reliability to the Nominee and the as well as continuity to the AO Education Platform. Requirement profile Requirements The nominee shall be prepared to act after the introduction phase of one year as President-Elect for two years (as a member of the Board of Directors and the Academic Council) President for two years Past-President for two years (as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and the Academic Council) The Past-President evaluates all applications according to the following criteria: He must have an outstanding record of contributions to the AO in teaching and/or research. He must have global experience and the interpersonal and communication skills to represent the Foundation internally and externally. He should fit into a rotation scheme of Specialties and regions. He must have proven managerial skills, and time available for a seven years commitment: Pre-President-Elect (one year with low load), President-Elect (two years with medium load), President (two years with a very high load) and Past-President (with a medium load). Powers and responsibilities as President-Elect The President-Elect assists the President in the performance of his duties, especially in the Academic Council. The President-Elect directs the AO Education Platform (strategic direction of AO Education); he requests and assures the participation of the specialties' Education Commissions in the AO Education Platform and their cooperation in innovative education projects to assure the future leadership of the Foundation and the whole AO network in education. Further tasks may be assigned to the President-Elect. The President-Elect must step down from all positions in international specialty boards and international steering boards at longest six months after election with the exception of the Board of Directors and the Academic Council. The mission is to foster and expand our network of healthcare professionals in education, research, development, and clinical investigation to achieve more effective patient care worldwide. The form should reflect the nominee s contributions to the AO endeavours. Details should be given under the general heading which form the basis of the Summary sheet attached. The form is a guide, and the headings may be transferred to separate sheets of paper, if desired. Additional information may include significant oral presentations, research applications granted (dates, project titles, amounts granted, granting bodies, etc.) and a short statement must be given of those of the nominee s attributes most likely to contribute to the activities of the Foundation. The Summary sheet should have attached a recent passport-size photograph of the nominee, if the nominee has not held a prior office. This sheet should be completed in English, either typewritten or printed. Persons eligible for nomination Persons eligible for nomination are expected to match the requirements profile for the Pre-President- Elect position.
