Louisiana Militia/Military Flags, State Seal, Coat of Arms Archive Accession number: VERT.053 Location: Vertical Files Extent: 21 file folders or 3.3 linear feet Arranged and described by: Ronald N. Brady, University of New Orleans, Internship Background This material was collected by the staff of the Jackson Barracks Library, under the auspices of the Louisiana Adjutant General s Office between the 1920 s and 2005. The collection underwent a restoration process after the effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This resulted in some documents being refiled with the Camp Beauregard Archive (VERT.042). A process of sorting, removing multi copies (retaining most legible copy) and consolidating the contents of the 50 file folders and the creation of a Finding Aid was ultimately completed. This collection consists of copies of newspaper articles and related material related to the state seal, flags and presentation of flags, of a variety of militia and military units of the State of Louisiana. Scope and Content 1779 1975 This collection consists of transcribed copies (and copies of transcribed copies) from several Louisiana newspapers relating the presentation of unit flags to a variety of local militia units. It also contains correspondence to and from Louisiana Nation Guard officials relative to flag of various Louisiana military/militia units. There are also hand drawings as well as copies of photographs of some flags related to Louisiana military/militia units. There are also correspondence related to the Louisiana State seal, state song, coat of arms and state flag as well as request for Louisiana military patches and state flags.
