Networking strategies Sincerely believe that networking is important Don't burn bridges Keep in touch Honor confidentiality Honor privacy (ask before referring others to them) Keep building (ask for referrals) Do your share of the work and more Don't worry about "what's in it for me Don't gossip (say good or not at all) Don't do it alone; we all need a professional friend. Avoid talking about yourself too much. The key is to ask the right questions.
Avoid talking about yourself too much The key is to ask the right questions Never abuse the process If you sincerely ask for information, advice and referrals, the conversation is usually rewarding Don't insist on talking in person Ten to 20 years ago, most networking conversations took place face to face. Now they are often by telephone or over e-mail. Don't stop networking when you get a job Connect, converse, and create a network of colleagues, clients, coworkers and friends!
At conferences Do Initiate conversation with attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and speakers Treat spouses with grace, interest, and respect (yours and theirs) Have a meeting plan, whether you are an exhibitor or an attendee. Don't Overindulge in liquor at meals, hospitality suites, or after hours. Presume that the hospitality party is purely a social event. Forget to follow up. Don't wait for someone to call you. Initiate networking. Don't let rejections stop you. Instead, expect them and move on. Don't ask for a job - it frightens people.
Our power comes when we can pick up the phone and make things happen for people. GOOD LUCK!
