LETTER FROM THE STATE DIRECTOR Dear Advisors, As you prepare to register for the State Leadership Conference, please read the following information carefully. The following packet contains all the information you need to register your students for this year s conference. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 585-366-4675, or bpotter@nysskillsusa.org. Please note the following: ALL conference pre-registration payments or po's must be received NO LATER than 5:00 p.m. on February 9, 2018 The conference registration fee is $95.00. Pre Conference registration will be online by December 1, 2017 and should be filled in and sent to Midge McCloskey by February 9, 2018. Conference registration will be conducted online at the National SkillsUSA registration site: www.skillsusa-register.org/login.aspx. All competitors must be Skills members by March 1, 2018. Hotel forms are due to Christie Bravos by March 28, 2018 through the forms@nysskillusa.org link.. Room rates are single $300.00, double $200.00. Hotel assignments will be posted by April 9, 2018. Hotel: Check in time at the hotel is 3:00pm. Please do not arrive before this. Black pants/skirt, white dress shirt & tie or blouse, or white polo shirt are the minimum dress requirement for all official activities. Competition dress must be worn during all competitions. Check standards for competition dress. A copy of the rooming form is included in this packet. Please use the form online. A tentative program will be posted when available. The 2017-2018 competition theme is: SkillsUSA: Champions at Work Job Ready Day One Also included in this packet are the state pin design contest guidelines. The state pin design is due to me by January 5, 2018 If you have a student that is interested in being a state officer for next year please have your students fill out the attached application form. After you log in click on the click here for conference tab and choose Spring Leadership 4. Click new registrant 5. Choose student 6. Fill in name, address, registration type, t-shirt size and birth date (make sure you put in both) If you do not put in all the information it will not save. 7. Hit save and go on to the next student 8. Remember to register the advisors 9. You do not need to email or send me your registration, I can access it from the web site 10. Code of Conduct Agreement In order that everyone may receive the maximum benefits from their participation, the "Code of Conduct" must be followed at all times to respect all public and private property, including our hotel. 1. Students are to sleep in the room in which they were assigned. 2. Curfew for this conference is 11pm. Please respect the rights of others by being as quiet as possible after curfew and remain in your rooms. 3. Students are NOT to be in the rooms of another student of the opposite sex for any reason. 4. Drugs or alcoholic beverages are NOT allowed. 5. Students are not to leave the hotel without being accompanied by their advisor. 6. Conduct shall remain exemplary. 7. All students must keep their advisors informed of their whereabouts at all times. 8. Official I.D. badges must be worn at ALL times. 9. All members must attend, and be on time for, all general sessions. 10. The dress code must be followed at all required times.

SkillsUSA New York PIN CONTEST 2017-2018 SkillsUSA New York is sponsoring the State Pin Design Contest for the year 2017-2018. The winning design will be used for this year s SkillsUSA New York pin. This is an excellent opportunity for you, the SkillsUSA New York member, to receive national recognition because the new pin will be mass-produced and traded at the next National Conference. All secondary student members of SkillsUSA New York are eligible competitors. Every year outstanding designs are eliminated because they do not follow the requirements and guidelines. Please follow the requirements and guidelines exactly. Pin Design requirements: MUST BE ORIGINAL ARTWORK (Not someone else s work copied from the Internet. This is the guideline most frequently not followed.) Must be rendered in color (shading or blending is allowed)) Must contain New York or NY Must contain SkillsUSA as ONE WORD If using the SkillsUSA logo, it must follow the brand requirements as outlined on the National SkillsUSA website. Must display the year 2018 All entries should be submitted with two versions of the artwork on a single page. The larger version (for T-Shirt) should be approximately 7 inches wide by 7 inches tall The smaller (for Pin) version should be approximately 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall. Both versions must be identical design. Dimensions of the pin when produced will be approximately 1 inch tall by the necessary width. For the T-shirt, the art will be adjusted to fit the front or back of the shirt. Artwork Must be submitted on paper no larger than 8 ½ x 11 Must include a typed paragraph of a maximum of 100 words, explaining the design and the significance of the colors used. The guidelines are: 1. Entrant must be a SkillsUSA New York secondary member. 2. Entrant s name, school, teacher, and Lead Advisor s names must be printed or typed on the reverse side of the art work. 3. Artwork will not be returned. 4. Judges decision is final. All rules must be followed to be eligible. 5. Entries must be received or post marked by January 5, 2018 6. Medals to be awarded to winners at NYS SkillsUSA Championships 7. The first Place winner will be eligible to represent NY at Nationals in the State Pin Contest. 8. Rev 8/2014 New York State Officer Contract As a New York State officer of SkillsUSA. (Name) has the responsibility to represent all Members of the organization. Your conduct must be exemplary always while representing the organization and on your personal time. You will have an opportunity to meet students, advisors, administrators, business and industry Representatives during your term of office. Your actions will set a standard for all SkillsUSA members to follow. When you sign this Officer Contract, it should be with the understanding that your obligations are great, as are the rewards of serving your members. You will also be reaffirming the ideals of SkillsUSA. As a state officer of SkillsUSA, I agree to adhere to the following rules and regulations: 1. I will, always, respect all public and private property. 2. When traveling for SkillsUSA, I will spend each night in the room of the hotel/motel to which I am assigned. 3. When traveling for SkillsUSA, I will abide by the curfew established and shall respect the rights of others. 4 I will not be in the sleeping room with a member of the opposite sex unless the door is completely open at all times. 5. I will not use alcoholic beverages or nonprescription drugs at any time. 6. When traveling for SkillsUSA, I will not leave the hotel/motel to which I am assigned without the express permission of the assigned SkillsUSA staff person(s). 7. My conduct will be exemplary always, during and outside of SkillsUSA functions. Any behaviors contrary to SkillsUSA s culture of inclusion and diversity will result in disciplinary action. 8. I will forfeit my office if I leave school before completing my training program, am suspended, or expelled. 9. I will respect authority always. 10. When traveling for SkillsUSA, I will keep the assigned SkillsUSA staff person in charge informed of my whereabouts at all times. 11. I will respect the official SkillsUSA dress by not smoking while wearing it. 12. I will attend all activities for which I am assigned, registered and will be on time to all functions and assignments. 13. I will adhere to the dress code at all times. 14. That means that for my term of office, any content I post on the Internet, for example, on Facebook, Myspace, YouTube or other Web sites, must be reviewed by an authorized adult such as my advisor, parent or guardian. I also understand these Web sites will be

monitored, and I will be requested to remove offensive material or any material not reflecting SkillsUSA s culture of inclusion and diversity. If I fail to do so and post inappropriate, unapproved or any material contrary to SkillsUSA s culture of inclusion and diversity, I will be put on probation as an officer and subject to the consequences of my advisor, school and/or state advisor or SkillsUSA national staff member.
