The list (now in its third year) recognizes 20 employers from across the country that demonstrate excellence in recruiting, hiring and retaining young professionals. Hormel Foods was selected for this list due, in part, to its attractive compensation and benefits package, as well as the opportunity for career growth and diversity. Currently, more than 60 percent of current employees have been employed at Hormel Foods for more than five years. We are honored by this recognition as one of the country s top employers for recent graduates, as this reaffirms our commitment to hiring talented individuals and providing the tools, environment and opportunity to build rich, diverse long-term careers, said Larry Lyons, director of human resources. above: Chuck Mellinger, supervisor of safety, security and medical, Fremont Plant, accepted the Spirit of Excellence award on behalf of the Fremont Plant at the Nebraska Safety Council Conference & Exposition in April. Fremont Plant receives Spirit of Excellence Award The Fremont (Neb.) Plant received the Spirit of Excellence Award from the Nebraska Safety Council, which honors occupational safety excellence. The award was presented in April at the Nebraska Safety Council Conference & Exposition. "This award is something every member of the Fremont team should be proud of," said Chuck Mellinger, supervisor of safety, security and medical, Fremont Plant. "It signifies our commitment to making the Fremont Plant a safe place to work." The Spirit of Excellence award is designed for Nebraska Safety Council members to encourage and promote the prevention of occupational injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Award applications were reviewed by a volunteer, independent committee of council-member safety professionals to ensure criteria were met for incident rates. In addition, the committee evaluated the training activities and safety programs of applicants. [2] inside Hormel Foods www.hormelfoods.com

His way is still Our Way In our founder's words... left: Hormel Flavor Sealed ham canning production in 1937 This year, we celebrate our founder s 150th birthday. George A. Hormel s wisdom and legacy of innovation and quality live on in our work today. George A. Hormel emphasized quality from the very beginning when he started his own company, Geo. A. Hormel & Company, in the 1890s. In this excerpt from George A. Hormel s unpublished autobiography Three Men and a Business he tells about his quest for quality. Quality was our only defense against the competition we had to meet from the big packers. To stay in business, we had to do everything a little better than they were doing it; the entire organization was keyed up to this one idea. I constantly hammered home the need for improving our working methods to the end that we could produce superior food while reducing costs, for in a highly competitive field it was impossible to accomplish the one without the other.
