TC Meeting Minutes, June 25, 2009 Members Present: Gwen Adell, Alena Bogucki, Jeannine Browning, Chris Carr, Mike Garringer, Michelle Harrell, Russell Hodgkin, Ernie Krug, Mary Link, Phil Metcalf, Joe Olah, Roy Weaver, Kate Webber and Eva Zygmunt-Fillwalk. After the committee meetings, Mike Garringer called the meeting to order at 10:12 a.m. Upon a motion by Mary Link and seconded by Phil Metcalf, the September 13, 2008 minutes were approved by voice vote. COMMITTEE REPORTS Outstanding Alumni Committee Report The winners of the Outstanding Alumni Award for 2008-09 are Dr. Rex Stockton and Dr. Roy Weaver. Dr. Rex Stockton, EDD69 is Chancellor s Professor in Counseling in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Roy Weaver, 68MAE71 is the former Dean of Teachers College at Ball State University and is now teaching in the Department of Educational Studies at Ball State University.A motion was made by Chris Carr to accept the nomination, seconded by Mary Link and approved by voice vote. Scholarship Committee Out of 18 submissions, 11 scholarships were awarded this year in the amount of $1,000 each. Brenda Thacker, Muncie, Helen Sornson Elementary Scholarship Sarah Zimmerman, Winchester, Teachers College Alumni Scholarship A motion was made by Mary Link to accept the selections of the scholarship committee, seconded by Jeannine Browning, and approved by voice vote. A motion was made by Phil Metcalf to reconsider wording on the Teachers College Alumni Scholarship form, indicating students must be of sophomore standing to apply, seconded by Jeannine Browning, and approved by voice vote. Teachers College Presentation Eva Zygmunt-Fillwalk gave a report on Immersive Learning projects the college was involved with this past academic year. The two projects she mentioned were the Voice and Vision and Project Snapshot. A project students will participate in Fall 2009 will involve partnership with Ball State University, two local schools and three local community agencies. Dean s Report Roy Weaver gave a brief report on the status of the college. The new dean, John Jacobson, will join the university on July 1. Projects for the upcoming year will include planning for Teacher College building renovations. Next Board Meeting The next board meeting is Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10 a.m. The location will be announced. Items on the agenda for the next meeting include: Meet New Dean Election of Officers Review Event Possibilities at Muncie Children s Museum (Alena Bogucki) or Minnestria Cultural Center (Mike Garringer) Review Innovative, Outstanding, and Scholarship Forms Meet Teachers Scholarship Award Recipients Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 11:28 a.m., and lunch followed.

TC Meeting Minutes, September 19, 2009 Members Present: Gwen Adell, Vince Bertram, Alena Bogucki, Jeannine Browning, Michelle Harrell, Russell Hodgkin, John Jacobson, Ernie Krug, Phil Metcalf, Joe Olah, Doug Siebert, Eugene White, Anthony Williams and Eva Zygmunt-Fillwalk. Speakers: Tony Kline, Jim Stroud and Ruth Moll Eugene White called the meeting to order at 10:40 a.m. Upon a motion by Phil Metcalf and seconded by Russell Hodgkin, the June 25, 2009, minutes were approved by voice vote. Presentation Tony Kline and Ruth Moll gave a presentation on the immersive learning project in Malawi Africa at the Mtendere Orphanage. Ball State teamed with community partner Ambassadors for Children for this project. At the orphanage, students worked with house mothers, tutored students, developed a lesson plan after accessing the children s needs and then taught from the lesson plan. Ball State is working with the Malawi Department of Education to form a partnership to participate in future projects. Muncie Children s Museum and Minnetrista Cultural Center Reports Alena Bogucki gave a brief report on information she obtained from the Muncie Children s Museum on hosting a family event and Michelle Harrell reported on the information Mike Garringer obtained about Minnetrista Cultural Center. A discussion followed on how past events at the Indianapolis Children s Museum were handled and what possible opportunities the two local venues held. Dean Jacobson mentioned Burris Laboratory School would be interested in partnering with the Teachers College Alumni Association to host a future event. A committee consisting of Mike Garringer, Alena Bogucki, Maria Esterline and Anthony Williams will look further into putting an event together. Review of Forms Innovative Education Grant Application The word public will be removed before the word schools in the first sentence of the first paragraph on the online application form. The word teachers will be replaced with educators in the second sentence of the first paragraph on the online application form. Outstanding Alumni Award Application

The wording are presently active in education and who have made significant contributions to teaching, administration, counseling, scholarship, and/or service. Recipients may include outstanding active classroom teachers or administrators. Awards are additionally made to those Ball State University Teachers College alumni who are presently active in another field of expertise other than education and have made significant contributions to that profession. To be replaced with have made significant contributions in their field or other areas of society. in the first paragraph of the nomination form. The return address to be changed from Dean s Office, Teachers College, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306-0575 to Ball State University, Alumni Association, Muncie, IN 47306-9987 on the bottom of the cover page of the downloadable application and the bottom of the online application form. Teachers College Scholarship Application Student ID number will replace the social security number on the first page of the application. The wording Beyond required course work, will be inserted at the beginning of question number two on the second page of the application. The sentence For your convenience, two postage-paid envelopes are attached to this application. will be deleted in the first paragraph listed under the additional requirements section on the second page. Dean s Report Teachers College Scholarship recipients had arrived for the luncheon which placed time constraints on the dean s report.
