Prometeo Project What is the Prometeo Project? The Prometeo Project is an initiative which is integrated into the national plan for the creation of a knowledge-based society. Its goal is to strengthen research, teaching and knowledge transference in specialized topics. «To contribute in the transference of knowledge for the benefit of Ecuador by providing to host institutions with high-level experts specialized in teaching, innovation, research, science, and technology» Prometeo Project Mission Cómo?

Prometeo Project How does Prometeo work? The Prometeo Project incorporates Ecuadorian or foreign high-level experts who reside abroad to host institutions for the development of academic and/or research projects in Ecuador. Works as a grant Categories: academic & researcher Terms from 2 to 12 months (non-necessarily in consecutive periods) Cómo? Opportunity for a second and, exceptionally, a third incorporation.

Prometeo Project Researchers Prometeos who work in research or knowledge transference projects, with complementary academic activities. Requirements To reside abroad To hold a Ph.D. degree Evaluation criteria 1. Projects led as lead researcher 2. Indexed publications in ISI Master Journal List 3. Qualitative scientific production, calculated by the Hirsch index 4. Recognitions, awards for scientific work 5. Experience in management regarding their specialty 6. Patent register 7. Letters of reference, evaluated according to the H index of who submits them

Prometeo Project Academics Experts who work in academic activities such as: classes, lectures, workshops, curricula design, etc. Requirements To reside abroad To hold a Ph.D. degree Evaluation criteria 1. Publication of the book The Galapagos Marine reserve : a Dynamic Socio-Ecological System in the Springer editorial. Universidad Técnica Estatal de Quevedo (Entomology) Ralph Flowers Creation of a research team with Ecuadorian and American expert to gather information about the coptoborus ochromactonus (new cockroach species) and its effects on wood production. Organization of workshops on the role of insects in water quality.

Results 342 on going projects Escuela Politécnica del Litoral (Plant Virology) Diego Quito Discovery of a new virus on papaya plantations. Biogenetic map of the virus to reduce its impact and joint training to farmers with the National Research Institute of Agriculture. Extension of the study to other Ecuadorian emblematic fruits such as: blackberry, watermelon & mellon. Michael Powell Secretaría de Educación Superior, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (Scientific method) Creation of public policies to establish new standards of scientific research in Ecuador. Training of public research institutes directos and higher education authorities regarding the planning of scientific projects under the result-based management model.
