9/2/14 LSU Health School of Nursing Welcome back to nursing school! I hope each of you had some time to relax and enjoy your summer break. As the fall 2014 semester begins, I am pleased to inform all our nursing students that we will be initiating the implementation of our new strategic map initiatives. More information regarding our strategic map can be located at http://nursing.lsuhsc.edu/aboutus/strategic Map.html. The next few weeks will be very busy as you continue to get organized for this semester; however, I encourage you to be involved in as many student government and student nursing association activities as you can manage. These activities are the means for our nursing school to be engaged with our community and give back to others while you continue on your journey to being a registered nurse or advanced practice registered nurse. Welcome back again! Demetrius Porche, DNS Professor and Dean
Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! It s that time of year. As many of you know the LSUHSC- NO schools receive an allotment of student tickets to the LSU home games. Attached is the policy that must be followed. All students enrolled in the School of Nursing can put their name in the box one (1) time per game. The box is located in the Dean s reception area on the 4 floor th of the SON building. The box will be out by 12 noon today. It will be picked up and secured today at 5pm each day and will go back in the morning at 9am. I encourage all of you to stop by and enter your name. The home schedule will be posted next to the box along with ticket distribution policy. Info we need written legibly on the approved form: Your name Student classification (SOPH I, CARE, Nap16, DNP etc.) Your LSUHSC email address Selected student winners must pick up their own ticket. You must present your LSUHSC student ID. When you pick up your FREE ticket, we will provide you with a document you will need to read and sign that holds you accountable for any attempt to redistribute the ticket for personal gain. Tickets are for student use only and cannot be sold, traded, or given away. You cannot use your LSUHSC email account to solicit winner or offer to buy or sell your ticket. If a winner is unable to use their ticket it must be returned to me as directed in the policy. If any of the ticket distribution policies are violated the ability to obtain LSU tickets for students is placed in jeopardy. We wish all of you good luck. Go Tigers. Only 10 more days until SATURDAY NIGHT in TIGER STADIUM!!! Cathy Catherine Lopez, RN, DHEd Assistant Dean for 2
Lets talk about sex. With High Schoolers. The New Orleans Adolescent Reproductive Health Program, or NOARHP is in it's fourth year at it's original site, Sci Academy, and in it's first semester expanding to Sci High, so we need volunteers (40-60!). Our mission is to ensure all Orleans parish public high school students will have access to age-appropriate, evidence-based, culturally sensitive and comprehensive reproductive health education, leading to safer, more responsible reproductive health decisions. We're an interprofessional team of LSUHSC students, and believe that as such we have a valuable perspective to share with High Schoolers. When we teach, we do so in co-teaching pairs of students using scripted lessons, collaborating before, during, and reflecting together after lessons to ensure that we're maximally effective. Before the program begins, a mandatory training is held for all volunteers. Volunteer dates below. Please note, we will accept volunteers with a variety of availability. Sci High (Uptown on Nashville Ave): September 11 - October 24 Thursday and Friday from 11:05-11:55 Sci Academy (New Orleans East off of Reed Blvd) October 14 - November 14 Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-3:45 Please feel free contact us at NOARHP.lsuhsc@gmail.com or directly at SWink1@lsuhsc.edu for more information for how to be a part of NOARHP this fall! 3
