NATURAL RESOURCE ECOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT Departmental Scholarships All Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) continuing students interested in applying for one of NREM s Scholarship or Awards must apply through CASNR Scholarship Application link at http://casnr.okstate.edu/current-students/scholarships-and-aid. The priority deadline date for the CASNR Scholarship Application is January 15. Incoming freshman students apply by completing the OSU Scholarship application in the OSU Admissions packet. Priority deadline is February 1. Transfer students may use CASNR Scholarship Application form as well at the above-mentioned link for CASNR Applications. Priority deadline is February 1. Some NREM undergraduate and graduate student s scholarships require a special application through NREM Scholarship and Awards Committee chair.

NREM Scholarships and Awards A.A. AND MARY LUE SEWELL AWARD The Sewell Award is presented annually to the outstanding upper-division junior-level undergraduate for achievement and involvement in wildlife or fisheries career-related activities (e.g., Student professional organizations, academics, and work) in that order. AMOUNT: $500/ for the year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall & spring semesters only ONE SEWELL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Outstanding upper-division junior in Wildlife or Fisheries, achievement and involvement in career related activities (student professional organizations) academics, and work in that order. AFANASIEV DISTINGUISHED GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP Any graduate student pursuing a degree in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Forest Resources option may be eligible for this $2,200 fellowship. AMOUNT: $2,200/ year DURATION: Up to four (4) academic years TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall & spring semesters only * TWO AFANASIEV FELLOWSHIPS ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Graduate student in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Forest Resources option. HOW TO APPLY: Admission to a graduate program in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. A special application form may be required. C. L. CLYMER FORESTRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP To be eligible for this $500 award, the applicant must successfully complete the summer camp program during the preceding academic year. Criteria for this award includes demonstrated scholarship, leadership, character and potential to make significant contributions to the practice of forestry as demonstrated during summer camp. AMOUNT: DURATION: TYPE OF AWARD: RESIDENCY: $500/ year One academic year Pays in fall or spring semesters only. Oklahoma residents and nonresidents ONE CLYMER SCHOLARSHIP ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Successfully complete the Summer Camp Program during the preceding academic year. The Summer Camp Faculty members select the recipient of this award. APPLICATION DEADLINE: No application required for consideration DAVE & DEBRA ENGLE SCHOLARSHIP The Dave and Debra Engle Endowment Fund provide funds for full-time students majoring in Fire Ecology and Management or Rangeland Ecology and Management. AMOUNT: $1000/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall or spring semesters only. ONE ENGLE SCHOLARSHIP ANNUALLY

DURRELL FORESTRY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to the outstanding senior Forest Ecology and Management student based on scholarship, character, and potential for leadership. AMOUNT: $1,500/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall or spring semesters only ONE DURRELL SCHOLARHSIP ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Successfully complete the Forestry Summer Camp Program during the preceding academic year. HOW TO APPLY: The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management Scholarships and Awards Committee make the selection considering all forestry seniors graduating in the current calendar year. APPLICATION DEADLINE: No application required for consideration FARRELL COPELIN SCHOLARSHIP Natural Resource Ecology and Management majors are eligible for this award. This award was created to reward students studying wildlife conservation. AMOUNT: NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TYPE OF AWARD: Pays fall and spring semesters ONE COPELIN SCHOLARSHIP ANNUALLY The NREM Scholarship and Awards Committee select the recipient of this award

FAYE ALLENE RIFE BROWN SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Forest Ecology and Management students attending OSU Summer Camp are eligible for this award. This award assists forestry students with summer camp expenses in a learning experience in Natural Resources. DURATION: Summer Term TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in summer semester MULITIPLE BROWN SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Sophomore or junior-level forestry student attending summer camp. HOW TO APPLY: Brown summer camp scholarships application forms are available from Scholarship Committee and emailed to all forestry students in February/March each year. FLOYD BROWN/ROGER ERWIN TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP Any student having completed college credit at any college or university who declares Natural Resource Ecology and Management as their major, with Forest Ecology and Management option. TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in spring, summer or fall semesters MULITIPLE BROWN/ERWIN SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Show potential for completing forestry program and must enroll in at least one forestry course in their first semester to be eligible to apply. All forestry scholarships require you answer additional questions about forestry. You must submit the CASNR online application for consideration.

FLICK FORESTRY RANGER AWARD This award is given to a Forest Ecology and Management senior student who demonstrates potential to succeed in the Profession of Forestry, involvement in clubs and other professional activities. TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in spring semester only ONE FLICK RANGER AWARD ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Demonstrated involvement in clubs and professional activities, not necessary to be the top academically. HOW TO APPLY: The Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management Scholarships and Awards Committee make the selection considering all forestry seniors graduating in the current calendar year. APPLICATION DEADLINE: No application required for consideration FORESTRY CAPSTONE AWARD This award is given to Forest Ecology and Management students that have enrolled as a student in the Forestry Capstone course. This award assists students with a portion of out-of-pocket educational expenses associated with the Forestry Capstone problems course. AMOUNT: Amount Varies each semester TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall or spring semester only MULTIPLE CAPSTONE AWARDS ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Enrollment in Forestry Capstone Course. HOW TO APPLY: The NREM Scholarship and Awards Committee select recipients of the Forestry Capstone Endowment Award or an An-Hoc Committee assigned. APPLICATION DEADLINE: No application required for consideration

FOUTCH SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIP Ms. Carolyn Jacob Foutch of Council Bluffs, Iowa, established this scholarship to assist students attending Forest Resource Field Studies Summer Camps 1 & 2 with expenses. AMOUNT: $700/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Scholarship: Pays in summer only. TWO FOUTCH SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Demonstrated financial need and not receiving any other scholarships, non-repayable loans or grants during the summer semester. All forestry scholarships require you answer additional questions about forestry. You must submit the CASNR on-line application for consideration. The NREM Scholarship and Awards Committee select the recipient of this award, with input from the donor. FINANCIAL NEED IS REQUIRED THOMAS C. AND MARIE JONES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP The Thomas C. and Marie Jones Endowment Fund recognizes junior or senior student in Natural Resource Ecology and Management that have demonstrated leadership by participating in civic and or campus organizations and have demonstrated an interest in the non-profit sector based on volunteer work, paid work experiences, or relevant completed course work. AMOUNT: $500/ semester for 2 semesters TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall and spring semesters only ONE JONES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: GPA 3.30 or better and is required to write an essay describing their career goals in addition to the scholarship application.

MATTHEW ALLEN SCHEIDT ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship recognizes a Natural Resource Ecology and Management junior or senior majoring in Wildlife Ecology and Management or Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology. AMOUNT: $1,000/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall and spring semester only ONE SCHEIDT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Junior or senior-level student with a GPA less than 3.5 who may be coping with significant health issues. LEW MEIBERGEN HONORARY SCHOLARSHIP IN RANGELAND MANAGEMENT The Lew Meibergen Honorary Scholarship is annually to a full-time student at Oklahoma State Univeristy, classified as a junior or senior, with documented financial need. AMOUNT: $1,250/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall and spring semester only NUMBER OF MURRAY-GRAY AWARDS VARIES ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Scholarship and excellence in research.

MURRAY-GRAY UNIT SERVICE AWARD The Murray-Gray Unit Service Award is presented annually to an individual(s) who demonstrates exceptional service and dedication to the mission of The Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (OKCFWRU). Recipients can be selected from inside or outside OSU. TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Award: Pays in fall term NREM SCHOLARSHIPS VARY ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Scholarship and excellence in research. The Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit select the recipient of the award. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Priority Deadline-March 15 NREM SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS The NREM Scholarships and Awards account is a cash account that receives donations from alumni and friends of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. The department appreciates all donations and will continue to use the fund to attract and award high quality students in NREM. AMOUNT: $300/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in spring term NUMBER OF MURRAY-GRAY AWARDS VARIES ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Scholarship, excellence, civic or campus organizations.

OKLAHOMA RANGELAND HERITAGE SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP Consideration for the Oklahoma Rangeland Heritage Society Endowed Scholarship the recipient must be a full-time student in Natural Resource Ecology and Management with a declared major in Rangeland Ecology and Management or Fire Ecology Option. AMOUNT: $1,000/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall and spring semesters ONE OK RANGELAND SCHOLARSHIP ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Completed at least sixty (60) credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Must have documented extracurricular and/or club activities. A letter of recommendation prepared by a faculty member must accompany each application.

OUACHITA SOCIETY OF AMERICAN FORESTERS SCHOLARSHIP The Ouachita Society of American Foresters offers this $500 scholarship on a rotating basis with the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Oklahoma State University, Natural Resource Ecology and Management receive the scholarship only during odd-numbered years. (Presented at annual Awards Banquet of the Ouachita Society in conjunction with annual meeting in November or December) TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Award: Pays in fall semester ONE OUACHITA SCHOLARSHIP: ODD NUMBERED YEARS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Member of Student Chapter, Society of American Foresters. Exhibit outstanding scholastic achievement and professional development. This forestry scholarship requires you attend the Ouachita Awards Luncheon in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in early December of the award year. HOW TO APPLY: the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management will announce information about this scholarship with application instructions. An Ad-Hoc Committee selects the recipient of this award. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Deadline November 15 FINANCIAL NEED REQUIRED OUTSTANDING FISHERIES STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP This award recognizes special achievement in academics, research and involvement in departmental, university, or professional activities by a graduate or undergraduate student in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology. TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Award: Pays in fall or spring terms * ONE FISHERIES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be actively involved with the student chapter of the American Fisheries Society or be actively involved in professional activities (student worker, technician, intern or professional societies). TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall or spring semesters only ONE RIGDON SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Sophomore or junior-level forestry student demonstrating interest in public service as a career goal. DAVE AND MERNA JO ROBINSON AWARD This scholarship recognizes a Forest Ecology and Management senior in Natural Resource Ecology and Management who has demonstrated special achievement not solely related to academic performance, encouraging professional development, activity and involvement outside of the classroom. TYPE OF AWARD: Blaze-orange cruiser vest equipped with a variety of forest mensuration tools RESIDENCY: Oklahoma residents and nonresidents ONE ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Member of Student Chapter, Society of American Foresters. All forestry scholarships require you answer additional questions about forestry. You must submit the CASNR on-line application for consideration. ROBERT L. LOCHMILLER II ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS Natural Resource Ecology and Management Doctoral and Master s graduate students in Wildlife Ecology or toxicology, scholarship and excellence in research. AMOUNT: $750/ year (PhD) $500/year (M.S.) TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Award * TWO LOCKMILLER SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Scholarship and excellence in research. AM0UNT: $1,000/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Award *ONE JARMAN FISHERIES SCHOLARSHIP ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be actively involved with the student chapter of the American Fisheries Society or be actively involved in professional activities (student worker, technician, intern or professional societies). SALLY JO BIBLE FORESTRY SCHOLARSHIP This graduate student award was established to support a program of research and education in forestry and the management of wildlife and natural resources. The scholarship honors overall excellence of a M.S. and Ph.D. graduate student in Natural Resource Ecology and Management. TYPE OF AWARD: Cash Award * ONE BIBLE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Scholarship and excellence in research. TED SILKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The applicant must successfully complete the Forestry Summer Camp Program during the proceeding academic year. Criteria for this award include demonstrated great improvement in professional attitude, character growth, forestry skill development and academic achievement, because of the camp experience. Recipient will have exhibited outstanding attitude, cooperation, motivation, and willingness to learn at the summer camp. TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall and spring semesters only ONE SILKER SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED ANUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Successfully complete the Forestry Summer Camp Program during the preceding academic year. Recipient will have exhibited outstanding attitude, cooperation, motivation, and willingness to learn at the summer camp. The Summer Camp Faculty members select the recipient of this award. AMOUNT: $1,000/ year TYPE OF AWARD: Pays in fall and spring terms only TWO OKLA RANGE MGMT SCHOLARHSHIPS ANNUALLY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Rangeland Ecology and Management junior/senior demonstrating academic achievement of 3.5 GPA or above. Member of Undergraduate Range Management Exam

WALKER FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE AND JUNIOR MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS The Walker Merit Scholarships are awarded yearly to a CASNR undergraduates majoring in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Forest Ecology and Management major option.
