Helpful Information Tips for Submitting a Successful Scholarship Application Whether you re a student beginning higher education or a professional continuing your education, scholarship funds may be available to help you pay for school. Christian Community Credit Union's multi-year Scholarships for Success Program is awarding $60,000 in scholarships! To qualify, applicants need to be:. A member of the Credit Union with a Checking Account (newly-opened or existing). Attending a college, university, or seminary for the 08-09 academic year 3. Enrolling (per semester/quarter) with units or more for Undergraduate students; six units or more for Graduate students. All scholarship packets need to be complete when submitting to Christian Community Credit Union. Note the scholarship deadline, eligibility, and application requirements. Applying for a scholarship takes time and effort. Don't have your application rejected because it is late or incomplete. Carefully follow all directions. Check all appropriate boxes and areas of the application that apply to you. Don't skip any required sections. Your application will be considered incomplete if there are blank areas. Re-read the directions and double-check your information before submitting your application. Accuracy is important. Check your financial records. Your application requires that you supply all information requested. Pay close attention to the question about your account number and make sure you report it correctly. This needs to be your own account number and not your parents. Letters of recommendation need to be signed and should provide detailed, pertinent information. Make sure the person you ask to recommend you understands the application process and award criteria. Give the writer advance notice so he or she has enough time to do a good job. Ask the writer to provide specific information about you such as: Christian character traits they ve observed in you Your enthusiasm and hard work Major accomplishments Leadership abilities Service involvement Transcripts. Your grade transcripts may be official, unofficial, or downloaded from your school s website. Find a qualified person to review your application and essay before you send it. An essay is required. Make sure you cover all required topics using specific examples. Remember, applying for a scholarship is a competitive process, so your best effort is required. Mail scholarship application and ALL required information in one package. Review application checklist (Membership/Additional Services Application for Checking Account, grade transcript, letter of acceptance, essay, areas of involvement, and two letters of recommendation) carefully to make sure your application is complete and required documents are together. Scholarship FAQs Frequently Asked Questions SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW How much is the scholarship award? The Credit Union is awarding a total of $60,000 in 08 and scholarships are each year. The Scholarships for Success Program will offer multi-year scholarship awards as follows: Undergraduate Students (Four-) Graduate Students (Two-) 3 4 $4,000 $,000 I m currently not a member of Christian Community Credit Union. How can I become a member of Christian Community Credit Union? You can become a member by following one of these easy steps: Apply online at mycccu.com/scholarship (must be 8 or over to apply online). If you re a student age 6-4, take advantage of our Student Advantage Banking Program. Go to mycccu.com/students. Call 800.347.CCCU (8) to request a membership invitation and open a Checking Account. Come to our Covina or San Dimas branches and a Member Services Representative can help you open a Checking Account. Can I apply for membership along with my scholarship application? Yes, you may open an account at the same time you apply for the scholarship. However, you need to have a Checking Account to be considered for a scholarship. Your Checking Account must be opened by March 3, 08. My parents have an account with Christian Community Credit Union, but I don t. Can I apply for a scholarship? You must have your own Checking Account with the Credit Union in order to be considered for the scholarship. Is a CUTMA account considered my own account? No. You can either open your own Christian Community Credit Union Checking Account or have your custodian close the CUTMA account and transfer the funds to you for the purpose of opening your own Checking Account. To do so, download and complete a CUTMA Relinquishment form at mycccu.com/forms-disclosures. I only have a Savings Account with Christian Community Credit Union. Can I apply for a scholarship? No. You must have a Checking Account with the Credit Union in order to be considered for the scholarship. I m already a member with either a Savings, Credit Card or Loan Account. How can I open a Checking Account with Christian Community Credit Union? You can open a Checking Account by following one of these easy steps: Go to mycccu.com/openaccount and click on Open Additional Accounts (must be 8 or over to apply online). Call 800.347.CCCU (8) to request an Additional Services application and mail it back. Come to our Covina or San Dimas branches and a Member Services Representative can help you open a Checking Account. Can I apply for a scholarship if I have already graduated from high school or am already in college? Yes, you may apply for the scholarship after you graduate from high school and are already in college. Incoming freshmen need to submit a letter of acceptance from the school. Can I apply if I have already completed my Undergraduate degree and am attending Graduate school? Yes, the scholarship program is open to Undergraduate students and Graduate students. I applied for the scholarship last year and did not get selected as a scholarship recipient. Can I apply again this year? Yes, you may apply again if you were not selected last year. Scholarship FAQs Continued Frequently Asked Questions I was selected for a scholarship prior to 04. Can I apply? Yes, you may apply for the multi-year scholarship until you have received the maximum scholarship of $4,000 for Undergraduate students; $,000 for Graduate students. I was selected for a multi-year scholarship in 07. Do I need to apply again? No, you need not apply for scholarship. However, you need to meet the requirements to maintain your multi-year scholarship awardee status. Please see section on Maintaining a Multi- Scholarship. Are employees and their family members eligible? Employees of Christian Community Credit Union are not eligible, but their family members are. Do you need to be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States to apply? Yes, the Scholarship Program is limited to members of the Credit Union who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States and its current and former territories. Are scholarships taxable? Scholarship funds that are exclusively for the payment of tuition, textbooks, fees, supplies, and equipment are normally not taxable. Recipients are responsible for taxes, if any, that may be assessed against their scholarship award. We recommend consulting your tax advisor or visiting the IRS website at irs.gov for more information. SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS Where can I get a scholarship application? Go to mycccu.com/scholarship. Do I have to open an account with Christian Community Credit Union before I apply for the scholarship? You do not need to open the account before you apply. You may open an account at the same time you apply for the scholarship. However, you need to have a Checking Account to be considered for a scholarship. What are the requirements to be eligible to apply for the scholarship? Applicants need to be a member of Christian Community Credit Union with a Checking Account (newly-opened or existing). If the applicant is not a member of the Credit Union at the time he or she sends a scholarship application, a completed membership application must also be included. If the applicant is an existing member who does not have a Checking Account with the Credit Union, a completed Additional Services application must be included. Attending a college, university, or seminary for the 08-09 academic year. Enrolled (per semester/quarter) with units or more for Undergraduate students; six units or more for Graduate students. Provide a current Grade Point Average (GPA) score along with grade transcript (need not be official). Complete an essay on a given topic. Letter of acceptance (graduating high school seniors and incoming Graduate students only) List activities and involvement in church, community, and school. Two signed letters of recommendation from individuals who have known you for at least one year (no family members). Application postmarked no later than March 3, 08. Scholarship applications lacking any of the requirements will not be considered. What is the scoring criteria? Grade Point Average (GPA), Areas of involvement, Essay, and References. Can I bring my application directly to the branch? Yes, you are welcome to bring the application to one of our branches as long as you bring it in by March 3, 08. When will I find out if I have been awarded a scholarship? Scholarships will be awarded the third week of May. All applicants will receive an email from the Credit Union regarding the outcome of their application. Be sure to include your email in your application. To ensure email delivery, be sure to add Christian@myCCCU.com to your email address book or safe senders list so these important emails are not sent to your junk mail folder. Will I need to submit additional information to continue receiving my multi-year scholarship? Yes, recipient of a multi-year scholarship will receive an annual notification via email and mail requesting transcripts to be submitted to the Credit Union annually. If I receive a multi-year scholarship as an Undergraduate student, will I continue to receive my award if I pursue my Graduate studies? Undergraduate students who receive a multi-year scholarship will need to re-apply for scholarship as a Graduate student when they pursue their Graduate studies. How many Checking Account transactions do I need to have per month to be considered active? An average of 0 transactions per month. Transactions include deposits, withdrawals, transfers, checks, and debit card purchases through any channel; i.e., in person, mail, ATM, online, mobile, or electronic. Can I enroll per semester/quarter with less than units as an Undergraduate student; six units or less as a Graduate student? You must enroll with units or more as an Undergraduate; six units or more as a Graduate student. When will I need to submit my annual transcripts? Transcripts are due July of each year to reflect the completed academic year. When do I receive my yearly disbursement? Annual awards will be disbursed in August of each year. What will my yearly award amount be? per year up to $4,000 for Undergraduate students; per year up to $,000 for Graduate students. How and when will I receive notification that my annual transcripts are due? Recipients will receive a notification by mail and email in May of each year. Maintaining a Multi- Scholarship Christian Community Credit Union s multi-year Scholarships for Success program will award a maximum scholarship of up to $4,000 for Undergraduate students and up to $,000 for Graduate students with the stipulation that recipients meet the multi-year scholarship award requirements. Undergraduate Students (Four-) Graduate Students (Two-) 3 4 $4,000 $,000 Requirements for Multi- Scholarships In order to continue receiving multi-year scholarship awards, recipients need to meet the following requirements:. Transcripts Recipients need to submit a copy of their transcript at the end of each academic year. Recipients will receive a yearly notification asking for their transcript. It is the student s responsibility to submit the information in a timely manner to ensure their yearly disbursement.. Cumulative Grade Point Average Recipients must earn and maintain at least a minimum 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). A yearly audit of the student s academic performance will be conducted to determine eligibility to continue receiving scholarship award. 3. Active Checking/Debit Card Account Awardees must maintain their own Christian Community Credit Union Checking Account in good standing with an average of 0 transactions per month. Transactions include deposits, withdrawals, transfers, checks, and debit card purchases through any channel; i.e., in person, mail, ATM, online, mobile, or electronic. 4. Minimum Unit Recipients must be enrolled (per semester/quarter) with units or more for Undergraduate students; six units or more for Graduate students. Awards will be renewed and deposited annually into the recipient s Christian Community Credit Union Checking Account once transcripts are received at the end of each academic year and requirements are verified. Recipients who do not meet all four of the multi-year scholarship requirements, will not receive their award for the next academic year. Secondly, they will no longer be in the scholarship program.
