SEPTEMBER 2016 The monthly publication of Jackson Park Yacht Club Commodore s Cup Race and Dinner Pam Rice, Editor Photos: Vern Estes The Commodore s Cup traditionally is to celebrate the Commodore and his accomplishments as well as giving the opportunity for the Commodore to thank the club members and staff for their work throughout the season. A new event was introduced by Commodore Webb aa race between members of various age groups. Three Tartan10 s were used in this race because of their one-design. Mischief, Andele and Witchcraft participated. (Continued)

Tri-State Finish Race Committee Submitted by Sylvia Ewing The Sunday race committee members were: David Truitt, owner and captain of the motor yacht Intrigue, David Dobbs, Stephanie Levine, Gretchen Horn. Sylvia Ewing, Susan Tonon, Tom Hytry, and Joe Sjostrom. The photos were taken by Joe Sjostrom and Tom Hytry. On Sunday morning we met at the Intrigue s dock and motored out to the finish line where we inflated and deployed the big white marker buoy and then dropped Intrigue s anchor a few hundred yards away. As the racing sailboats crossed the finish line between Intrigue and the marker we logged their boat name, boat number and arrival time, and exchanged greetings and cheers. The committee was grateful for the lunches and drinks provided JPYC. Tip of the Week Want to sit outside and enjoy a nice cozy fire? Check out our fire pit on the north side of the Club. It s the perfect way to keep warm while watching the sunset, roasting some marshmallows, or listening to the crackling wood. Remember to extinguish the fire prior to walking away. Do you have a tip? Send an email with your recommendation. Race Committee Who s ready to get on the water, learn something new, raise flags, meet new people, blow horns, watch sailboats glide across Lake Michigan, and enjoy the sunset? We need a few more volunteers to assist on the following dates: *Wednesday, September 14th at 6PM Arrive early on Wednesday night to purchase burgers and sandwiches in support of our Sea Scouts. Race committee: David Dobbs, David Truitt (Captain), and Sylvia Ewing *Morf Commodore s Cup Saturday, September 17th at 9:30AM Come spend the day on the water with Race Committee. A sandwich lunch will be provided for all volunteers. If that sounds like something you d enjoy, email your sandwich order to jpyc-membership@sbcglobal.net and sign up for our Race Committee here. Thank you to all the members that have volunteered for Race Committee this season. Photos: Joe Sjostrom
