6 Summer 2017 Veterans Corner The VONAPP (Veterans On Line Application) website is an official U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) website that enables service members, veterans and their beneficiaries, and other designated individuals to apply for benefits using the Internet. Website: vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/about_vonapp.asp Who should use VONAPP? You should use VONAPP if you are a U.S. military veteran, a service member on active duty, a member of the Selected Reserve, a spouse/dependent of a "service connected" disabled or deceased veteran, or a family member that has been approved to receive transferred benefits. If you have previously filed a claim for education benefits, use VONAPP only if you are filing for a different education benefit or if you are changing schools or programs under your current benefit program; for example, if you are eligible for two benefit programs, currently using one, but would like to begin using the other benefit program. If you have a pending application, don't use VONAPP to resubmit your claim. It will slow down processing. If you would like to know the status of a pending claim, contact the Education Division by calling 1-888-GI BILL 1 (1-888-442-4551). If you are applying for compensation, pension, vocational rehabilitation and employment, or burial benefits: Active duty and full-time service members within 180 days of separation or retirement may apply under the Benefits Delivery at Discharge or Quick Start Pre-Discharge programs. For information on how to apply, visit the Pre-Discharge website. Disability Compensation benefits can be applied for using the Disability Compensation Application process in ebenefits. Login is required. Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment benefits can be applied for within ebenefits/vonapp using VA Form 28-1900. Pension benefits can be applied for within ebenefits/vonapp using VA Form 21-526. Burial benefits can be applied for within ebenefits/vonapp using VA Form 21-530. In order to use your VA educational benefits at Saint Leo University, you must: Officially apply to Saint Leo University and request all transcripts be sent to the center within the first two academic terms. Saint Leo University does not determine VA eligibility. Eligibility to receive education benefits is determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Before you register for class, provide the School Certifying Official (SCO) with documentation of your VA eligibility in the form of a certificate of eligibility letter or a copy of your VA application. Your SCO will then submit a 22-1999 to the VA on your behalf.
