Minutes from November 2002 Meeting A. Minutes approved and seconded. II. Announcements and updates from National A. ACNM Annual Meeting May 30-June 5 th, 2003, Palm Desert, CA. B. Semmelweiss Conference being organized, April 10 th at Edison Hilton in Iselin. C. Prescriptive authority license number letter has been sent out to us with new uniform ending numbers. By July new scripts with your new numbers need to be in use. Regarding DEA numbers: Louise Aucott informed us that as soon as the new regulations are approved we will have no more restrictive formulary, and we can apply for a DEA number. D. Employment opportunities: 1. PPH headquarters in Shrewsbury looking for full time practitioner. (732-842-9300) 2. Planned Parenthood in Trenton also looking for full time practitioner. (609-599-4881) E. Shortage of clinical sites, students traveling long distances; Barbara Reale, CNM of the Univ. of PA CNM Program urged practices to please consider taking students, clinical sites are needed. Discussion followed regarding the future possibility of reimbursement and/or CEU s for taking a student. III. Treasurer's Report A. N. McManus. NJ 07940. IV. Committee Reports A. Legislative: Metta Cahill 1. BOME Regulations : awaiting action 2. Senator Bennet not moving bill ahead re: Senate Bill 2024 (regarding restrictive practice for midwives.) Because of the numerous emails and calls which flooded his office, he withdrew the bill for further review. Dawn Durain reminds us that this is a great example of success in numbers!! Face to face time to be spent with legislators to educate them about midwives, before the bill comes up again. Senator Bennet has agreed to meet with midwives regarding this issue. 3. Malpractice: 60 plus bills at present regarding malpractice: to keep informed the web site is www.njforhealthcare.org. Insurance carriers at same website: you can obtain rates from malpractice carriers. 4. Princeton Insurance Co. considering not insuring midwives any longer, if you are insured by Princeton, start investigating who else may underwrite your practice. B. Nominating Committee: need to get organized, for election of officers: President & both Secretaries. Judy Katz has resigned, effective immediately, we need someone to manage the website ASAP! Anyone interested please contact Dawn Durain. We had some discussion of electing or hiring new sec. for Web Site, ongoing. C. Continuing Education: M. Walker For next year: - Centering Preg. Program, 2 day weekend workshop - Water Birth Workshop,1 day workshop - No continuing CEU s needed for pharmacology in new regulations per Louise Aucott. - Email Molly with suggestions if you have them. (mollvwalk@aol.com). D. Peer Review: Ongoing E. Public Relations: Legislation for Clean Ocean Action- article given to D. Durain for our support and education of people regarding toxins in fish and
dangers regarding pregnant women. V. Representative Reports B. Region II Rep.: K. Dawley absent C. BOME: K.Criss absent Louise Aucott states final presentation of our regulations are in motion. There remained some controversy over several areas, but they were passed, and are awaiting publication soon. VI. VII. Old Business. Molly Walker presented the concept of selling a picture of a woman and midwife at convention and discussion followed. She will mat and bring for approval at next meeting. New Business A. Many changes are taking place with our liability insurance, refer to our ACNM website www.midwife.org for insurance alerts and the latest information.
