2016 Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi Annual Convention Theme: Multidisciplinary Approaches to Healthcare April 28 May 1, 2016 Beau Rivage, Biloxi, MS Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to: 1. Summarize in writing and discussion how the prevention of illness, promotion of health, and identification and management of health disparities in African Americans will enhance their clinical practice. 2. Obtain information regarding current and future trends in healthcare, and state and national policy initiatives that can be integrated into job roles and disseminated to the community. This continuing education activity has been submitted to the Mississippi Nurses Foundation, Inc. for approval to award contact hours. The Mississippi Nurses Foundation, Inc. is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation.

Keynote Speaker Rowena Elliott, PhD, RN Dr. Rowena W. Elliott has been a registered nurse for 34 years. Her professional experiences include medical-surgical nursing, long term care, home health, dialysis, and legal nurse consulting. She has been nurse educator for the past 18 years. She is currently Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Advanced Practice at the University of Southern Mississippi College of Nursing. She is also a board-certified nephrology nurse and Adult-Gero Nurse Practitioner. She was the first African American National President of the American Nephrology Nurses Association from 2011-2012. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She was bestowed the honor of being inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2012. Dr. Elliott received a BSN in 1982 and MSN in 1998 from University of Mississippi School of Nursing in Jackson, MS. She also received a PhD in Educational Leadership (Higher Ed emphasis) from the University of Mississippi School of Education in Oxford, MS in 2003. Prayer Breakfast Speaker Marcus Gaut, DNP, RN Dr. Marcus M. Gaut serves as an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Department of Systems Leadership and Health Outcomes within the College of Nursing at The University of Southern Mississippi. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from The University of Louisiana at Monroe, Monroe, Louisiana; a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Health Care Systems Management from Loyola University New Orleans, New Orleans, Louisiana; and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with concentrations in Administration and the Nurse Educator Role at Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Gaut has served his community and country as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Combat Medic in the Louisiana Army National Guard, Corpsman in the United States Naval Reserve, Pastor, Registered Nurse, Nurse Educator, Certified Patient Educator, and Faith Community Nurse. He maintains professional, fraternal, and social memberships to include a life membership in the Health Ministries Association;

affiliations with the International Parish Nurse Resource Center; Faith Community Nurses International; the American Nurses Association; and, the Lambda Mu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Marcus M. Gaut was born 3 months prematurely in Stuttgart, Germany weighing 2 pounds, 5 ounces. He experiences each day as an expression of faith and is thankful for the blessing of health. He is married to his wife of 14 years. Together they parent three children and a miniature Schnauzer. He lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He is a graduate of Caddo Parish Magnet High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. Featured Speakers Timothy J. Beverly Farabee-Mapp, JD, BSN, RN is Executive Director, Hospice Care at Home Beverly Signature Properties, Inc., The Lakeover Center, Jackson, MS James B. Hall, MD is the owner of Anointed Nephrology &HTN, PLLC in Brookhaven, MS Derek Holt, DNP, FNP-BC, ENP-BC is the Interim Lead Nurse Practioner in Emergency Medicine and Instructor in the School of Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, MS.

Colleagues, Welcome to the Eliza Pillars Registered Nurses of Mississippi (EPRNM) Annual Convention. The Convention, Education and Program Committees have worked hard to create an event that will be informative and fun. Friday is Royal Blue and White Day. All EPRNM members are asked to wear those colors that day. As you look through this brochure, you will find education sessions that will inspire and challenge you to provide excellent healthcare to the citizens of Mississippi. You will also have many opportunities to network with colleagues, enjoy your friends, and meet exceptional nurses from around the state who share your commitment and compassion for the profession. I m looking forward to the great time we will have with each other. The planning for this momentous convention has been completed by experienced champions. Our creator, our Heavenly Father and our Faithful God has been put before all our planning. He has given us favor, and I personally would like to say, Thank You to Him because without Him, none of this would have been possible. Our theme for this convention Multidisciplinary Approaches to Healthcare was appropriately chosen. I look forward to greeting each of you personally. The time we spend with each other will serve as a catalyst for us to continue to Bridge the Gap.
