EXECUTIVE ASSOCIATE DEAN OF NURSING SCHOOL OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS AND EDUCATION UTICA COLLEGE THE SEARCH Utica College - - a young, small, vibrant, entrepreneurially- minded institution - - invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Associate Dean of Nursing within the School of Health Professions and Education. The Executive Associate Dean serves as the College s Nursing Program administrator, in which capacity s/he provides leadership in a collaborative style for the ongoing development and operationalization of academic and professional nursing programs, their resources and future directions. In addition to overseeing a traditional on- ground B.S. licensure program and an online RN- BS program, this person will support the rapidly growing rollout of the accelerated, second- degree pre- licensure program to multiple locations. The Executive Associate Dean will interact on a regular basis with health care providers, hospital systems, government regulators and other key external stakeholders as well as serve as a faculty advocate and mentor. In carrying out her/his responsibilities, the Executive Associate Dean will collaborate with other nurse educators to support and share the science of nursing education, not only within the School, but also in the national and international nursing education communities; will oversee delivery of high quality curriculum using multiple mechanisms (e.g., face- to- face, e- learning, webinars); and, over time, will grow programs and expand offerings. The Executive Associate Dean will report directly to the Dean of the School of Health Professions and Education and will also work closely with a range of senior College administrators. - 1-

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES The primary responsibilities of this position include: Providing strategic leadership for the Nursing Programs including, but not limited to: o Advancing the Department of Nursing's reputation. o Fostering innovative collaborations and professional relationships within the clinical, academic, health care and general communities. o Overseeing academic curriculum and student outcomes. o Fostering innovative collaborations and professional relationships within the clinical, academic, health care and general communities. o Leading academic and professional accreditation processes and strategic planning. o Ensuring that requirements mandated by NYSED and other equivalent state agencies are met. o Acting as liaison between department faculty and the school dean, other campus offices, and the community and keeping the dean up to date on departmental activities. o Preparing reports needed for NYSED and State Boards of Nursing and accreditation agencies. Facilitating the academic review and approval process for program offerings and ensuring program effectiveness through quality assurance auditing and improvement. Leading the faculty in the assessment process to develop, promote and evaluate program goals and objectives. Projecting staffing needs. Orienting, mentoring, assigning and overseeing evaluation of all nursing department faculty/staff. Managing program budgets and participating in the development of annual budget projections for subsequent fiscal years. Identifying areas of opportunity for intra- and extramural funding and participating in grant writing as appropriate. Working with the Offices of Enrollment Management and Marketing and Communications to promote enrollment growth and learning initiatives through effective marketing strategies and campaigns and to develop the market and enrollment analytics that will ensure qualitative and quantitative growth. Supporting the College s Office of Advancement in the solicitation of major gifts prospects in support of the nursing program. Serving as liaison with the Site Directors, Dean of the School of Health Professions and Education and College administrators, faculty, students and external entities. Encouraging and supporting interdisciplinary and interprofessional education. Performing other related duties as assigned. - 2-

QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate for this position will have qualifications including: PhD, D.N.S. or other doctoral degree in nursing or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required. Active RN license in the State of NY (or eligibility for RN license at appointment) is required. Ability to travel approximately 40% of the time to extension sites and potential health care program partners. Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible leadership and administrative experience in an entrepreneurial, higher education setting and a proven track record in strategic planning and project management. Essential skills including awareness of national and global issues in higher education, understanding of the concept of lifelong learning, and interest in tracking and responding to emerging trends in continuing education of healthcare professionals. Minimum of five years teaching experience in a professional nursing educational program, including online teaching experience. Demonstrated leadership experience and skills, in particular the capability in the near term to assume duties commensurate with those of a nursing school or college dean, including: o Excellent interpersonal organizational and communication skills with key internal and external stakeholders o Commitment to high professional standards o An aptitude and enthusiasm to use technology as a teaching learning tool o Strong fiduciary and budget management skills. Nursing students at Utica College work closely with exceptionally accomplished faculty and have access to UC's state- of- the- art Albert and Gloria Shaheen Nursing Laboratory, which features a fully equipped hospital ward and advanced learning technologies. Graduates of the two pre- licensure options are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX- RN) upon successful completion of their studies. The baccalaureate program in nursing comprises three options 1 : Ground (Traditional) Option: This is the traditional four- year option for students seeking to become Registered Nurses. RN to BS Option: This option is intended for licensed RNs who have completed an associates degree program and wish to obtain a bachelor of science degree. Accelerated Second Degree Option: This option provides a 16- month pathway for students who have already earned a bachelor s degree in a field other than nursing and wish to embark on a career in nursing. Syracuse, NY, has just graduated its first class. A second site in St. Petersburg, FL, is set to open in August, 2014. The intent is to open at lest three more sites in each state, for a total of eight by 2020. Accreditation The nursing program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). and received the maximum 10- year re- accreditation in 2005 and is scheduled for re- accreditation visit in 2015 and by New York State Board of Nursing. Nursing Faculty Profile The College of Health Professions and Education has 13 nursing faculty members who, with the support of a number of highly qualified adjunct and clinical faculty, provide instructional and clinical expertise over the 3 nursing baccalaureate options. Nursing Student Profile The nursing student enrollments in Spring 2014 by option are: Ground (traditional) Option: 154 RN to BS Option: 414 Accelerated Second Degree Option: 115 ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS AND EDUCATION The School of Health Professions and Education is home to undergraduate health related programs in nursing, psychology- child life, therapeutic recreation, and health studies, masters programs in occupational therapy (both traditional and in a weekend format), and two doctor of physical therapy programs. A minor and certificate program in gerontology and undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher education are also housed in the School. - 7-

The School of Health Professions and Education includes an impressive number of award- winning faculty: Three recipients of the prestigious Virgil Crisafulli Distinguished Teaching Award the highest teaching honor at the College come from this School. Two taught the post- graduate child life curriculum at Kuwait University, One provided physical therapy to children in Albany with three students of the School. One was selected as "Young Forensic Scientist" by the American Academy of Forensic Science and was recently recognized as one of the Top Forensic Science Professors by ForensicCollege.com. One was selected to receive the national award for service to the Acute Care section of the American Physical Therapy Association One was recognized as Outstanding Pediatric Physical Therapist by the national organization of the physical therapy profession.
