Registration ongoing for assistance through Pack the Backpacks While July is a warm month in general, it is particularly hot for the annual Washington County School Supply Drive. The organization, known for its Pack the Backpacks effort, is now in full swing to provide school supplies for needy students in the Bartlesville, Dewey, Caney Valley, Copan, Osage Hills and Bowring public school districts. Last year, more than 2,300 students were given free supplies and a new backpack or cinch bag. In addition, BPSD substitute teaching opportunities available The Bartlesville Public School District is currently accepting applications for substitute teaching positions. To apply please visit www.bps-ok.org and click on the employment tab. No prior teaching experience is necessary; however, to be eligible for the position, one must present an official high school diploma, GED documentation, college transcript or original unexpired Oklahoma teaching license. Should your application be selected, you will be required to visit the Education Service Center at 1100 S. Jennings to fill out paperwork. Substitutes must have fingerprints and a background check done upon selection. If you have been employed as a full-time teacher at any Oklahoma school district in the last five years, and have had fingerprints and a national background check done, you may bring a copy of that check, along with a letter from the school district stating that you left in good standing. This will override any other background check you would need to do for the upcoming school year. If you have completed the process to be a substitute in an Oklahoma school district in the more than 200 youngsters were assisted with leftover supplies from the effort. From July 1-28, parents or guardians of students can sign up for free supplies at CONCERN, Agape Mission and the Mary Martha Outreach. On August 4, beginning at 9 a.m. at St. Luke s Episcopal Church, the WCSSD will distribute a backpack or cinch bag to each student containing the supplies they need for their respective school and grade level. two preceding school years, you BACKPACKS- Continued to page 6 SUBSTITUTE- Continued to page 6
