Value, Mission and Vision Statements Group Editing and Ratification

Environmentalism Santa Barbara has one of the longest histories of environmentalism of any city in the United States, dating back at least as far back as the oil spill in 1969. The abundant natural beauty around us inspires a shared appreciation for our habitat, which we rely on for clean water to drink, air to breathe, and soil to grow our food in. The community has made environmental conservation a priority, a commitment which shows in the large number of environmental organizations, and a commitment which the Partners in Environment hope to amplify through unification of these many organizations.

Collaboration Each of our local environmental organizations make valuable progress towards a community in harmony with nature. Their work, however, could become much more effective and in fact easier if they were to fully leverage the collective resources of the environmental movement as a whole. In this age of social networking, globalization, and interactivity, horizontal relationships are quickly proving their worth. Partners in Education provides the vehicle for a giving economy, enabling extraordinary accomplishment through sharing and support.

Volunteerism Volunteerism is a proven way to build a stronger sense of community. The unification of the environmental movement via networking among organizations will allow volunteers to find where their skills and interests fit and where they can contribute the most. Ease of access to the entire environmental community through Partners in Environment will foster civic engagement and strengthen community bonds while preserving the environment.

Mission Statement The Partners in Environment is a coalition of nonprofit organizations which connects people in Santa Barbara County interested in volunteering to local environmental organizations in need of volunteers. Through our efforts, volunteers will be directed to where they are most needed and each organization will be able to more easily secure the number of volunteers they are seeking. Our central volunteer base will be most helpful for small organizations and organizations that only occasionally need large numbers of volunteers. Through its online portal, Partners in Environment matches volunteers to specific volunteer opportunities, facilitates the sharing of resources, significantly eases volunteer access to information and service opportunities, and unifies the environmental movement throughout Santa Barbara County.

Vision The Partners in Environment will bring new energy into the environmental movement by making it easy to identify local environmental volunteer projects. New ideas will spread throughout the community as volunteers participate in activities organized by different agencies, and spread those ideas as they volunteer across organizations. Long-term Goal: Five years from now, Partners in Environment will have registered 2,500 volunteers and will help to match 30,000 hours or more of volunteer time annually.
