S. divisions are known by a number / After World War II the Americal Division was officially re-designated as the 23rd Infantry Division / The Americal was reactivated 25 September 1967 at Chu Lai in Vietnam from a combination of units already in Vietnam newly arrived units / The Americal Division never lost a major battle in Vietnam, accounting for thouss of enemy dead wounded, is noted for its exemplary performance during the Tet Offensive, The Battle of LoGiang, the Battle of Nui Hoac Ridge (Hill 352) throughout its approximate 6 year deployment in Vietnam / Americal casualties in Vietnam numbered 4,041 during 2,111 days of combat / The division was inactivated following its withdrawal from Vietnam in November 1971.
