Wrking under the directin f Lead Clinical Skills Trainer, the pst hlder will develp, directly deliver and evaluate clinical and prcedural skills prgrammes acrss a range f skills (Appendix 1). The psthlder will prvide supprt t existing trainers, educatrs and assessrs ensuring a c-rdinated and standardised apprach t training prvisin. Wrking in cllabratin with the Clinical Skills Manager and the Clinical Skills Technicians, the psthlder will psitively cntribute t the develpment and expansin f the service. In rder t meet the cntractual service requirements, the pst hlder will be required t be flexible t deliver the service in line with business needs. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT In cllabratin with key clinical educatin leads, the pst hlder will develp and deliver cmpetency based training prgrammes that: Are thrughly researched and cmply with the lcal and natinal best practice guidelines Page 1 f 12

Advertising and Applicatin Prcess The pst hlder will ensure that all training initiatives are effectively and timely advertised t their target audience using a variety f media Answer any queries frm staff, students and cmmissiners regarding curse cntent and applicant suitability Liaise with the prfessinal leads t establish specific educatinal and training pririties that will infrm the applicatin and selectin prcess Encurage prspective applicants by prviding cmprehensive precurse infrmatin and advice Training Delivery Ensure all training aids are prepared and in gd wrking rder prir t students arrival Ensure register f candidates is cmpleted s that attendance can be mnitred When nt cmpleted by administrative team ensure curse dcumentatin (handuts, tests, simulated criteria and evaluatin frms) are prepared and available in the right numbers fr each training sessin Check the necessary audi visual equipment is prepared and in gd wrking rder Directly deliver training as planned t a variety f prfessinal grups (see Appendix 1). Medical Schl training must be delivered within the cnstraints f academic year Train using a variety f teaching techniques and aids, t meet the training needs f the learners Plan and meet the learning needs f candidates wh require retraining due t errrs in the clinical setting r lapse in practice, prviding advice and feed back t bth the candidates and their managers as apprpriate Assessment Assess candidates n their ability t perfrm clinical skills in a simulated and clinical envirnment in line with Trust and natinal guidelines Page 3 f 12

Give cnstructive feedback t candidates n their perfrmance during practice and assessment Prvide advice and infrmatin t bth the candidates and their managers abut the prcedures t fllw when the candidate is unsuccessful, r if further specific training needs are identified at time f assessment Organise re-training r referral t relevant clinical educatin staff where candidates have nt achieved cmpetence Evaluatin and Fllw up Ensure evaluatin frms are cmpleted at the end f each training sessin and that any resulting infrmatin relating t either the structure r delivery f teaching is acted upn where apprpriate. Use all available reprting mechanisms and audit findings t review and imprve training prgrammes. 2. COMMUNICATION In cllabratin with key educatin prviders, the pst hlder will identify best practice in rder t recgnise and manage risk during the care f patients, where extended clinical skills are being used. The pst hlder will increase clinical risk management awareness and assist in imprving standards and prcedures by: Establishing strng cmmunicatin links with key clinical experts, clinical gvernance and educatinal leads t recgnise and establish an agreed framewrk f training that is demand led and evidence based Cllabrating with clinical educatin prviders t supprt the existing training prgrammes and t develp new training initiatives Representing Clinical Skills training service n lcal and natinal frums t keep abreast f current trends in clinical skills training, t share gd practice and t wrk n cllabrative prjects Cntributing t the cmmunicatin f changes t practice in line with Trust prtcls and guidelines Prviding supprt t the management f the Clinical Skills t ensure clinical credibility and accreditatin f its training service. Maintaining Trust awareness f the training service, its purpse and success measures thrugh effective and regular advertising and Page 4 f 12

MANAGEMENT Wrking under the directin f Lead Clinical Skills Trainer, the pst hlder will cntribute t the implementatin f systems that manage the skills training prvisin and cmpetence criteria fr all Trust clinical staff and students. The pst hlder will: Verify that all relevant training plicies and prcedures are cnsistent with legislative requirements and the requirements f Trust plicies, amending where necessary and highlighting discrepancies t relevant key stakehlders Wrking clsely with the Training Administratin and the Medical Schl Educatinal Technlgy Team, crdinate the maintenance f an extensive training database, t ensure a rbust methd fr updating training and staff cmpetency prfiles. Use the training data t cnduct Trust and Natinal audits as requested by key stakehlders Manage wn time and wrklad in line with training pririties and cntribute t the management f training rtas Ensure that all curse participants cmply with the Trust Health & Safety plicies, COSHH requirements, Infectin Cntrl plicies and Medical Devices Assurance plicies Take part in the Clinical Skills annual business planning cycle t infrm the planning f training prvisin by identifying resurce pressures and ptential cst imprvement targets where pssible 4. CONSULTANCY The pst hlder will prvide a fcus fr clinical skills training t all Trust staff and students by: Page 5 f 12

Educating and infrming staff in regards t health and safety issues relating t clinical skills and cmpetent use f equipment Supprting the prcesses in place t identify clinical practice that may need investigatin thrugh quality imprvement r research activities Cntributing t the Clinical Gvernance agenda by acting as a change agent in rder t identify, prmte and intrduce best practice Exercise specialist knwledge f the field f clinical skills, bth autnmusly and by wrking clsely with multidisciplinary teams acrss the Trust Prmting by educatin, the persnal accuntability f practitiners t imprve prfessinal knwledge and cmpetence 5. RESEARCH AND AUDIT The pst hlder will ensure that all training is research and evidence based and falls in line with existing Trust prtcls and prcedures by: Applicatin f current research in all clinical skills training, educatin and cnsultancy Ensuring that literature reviews are perfrmed fr each skill being taught n a regular basis t ensure that the mst current infrmatin and research is being circulated Perfrming audits in the clinical setting t identify clinical practice that may need investigatin thrugh quality imprvement r research activities Auditing the effectiveness f the training prvisin by examining the data derived frm training and cmpetency reprts Undertake an active piece f research n a designated clinical skill annually 6. NO SMOKING POLICY The Trust has a n smking plicy. Staff are nly permitted t smke in designated smking shelters. Members f staff must nt smke inside any f the Trust s premises nr in any vehicle used n Trust Business. Members f staff must adhere t the Trust s Unifrm Plicy and therefre any unifrms must be cvered whilst smking.
