Milley, the 39th Chief of Staff of the Army, for a special Twilight Tattoo program today, Tuesday, May 23 at 6 p.m. on Fort Myer s Whipple Field, to recognize three Americans for their outstanding service in support of the United States Army. This special Twilight Tattoo will recognize and honor John Chambers, Executive Chairman of Cisco System; Elizabeth Dole, Chairman of Elizabeth Dole Foundation; and Meghan Ogilvie, Chief Executive Officer of Dog Tag Bakery. Milley will make brief remarks about each of the recipients during the ceremony. The show is FREE and open to the public; no tickets or pre-registration required. The Old Guard honors America s fallen with Flags-In May 25 Flags-In is a time honored tradition reserved for Soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). Since The Old Guard s designation as the Army s official ceremonial unit in 1948, they have conducted this mission annually at Arlington National Cemetery prior to Memorial Day to honor our nation s fallen military heroes. This year s Flags-In is scheduled for Thursday, May 25 beginning at 1 p.m. Within four hours, more than a thousand Old Guard Soldiers will place a small American flag one foot in front of and centered at more than 284,540 grave markers, to honor every individual buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Old Guard Soldiers will also place an American flag at the foot of each Columbarium to account for the more than 400,000 interred. And a Tomb Sentinel will conduct a ceremony to place American flags at each of the four crypts to honor all our nation s fallen heroes at noon. Wright Gate project continues The Corps of Engineers is overseeing construction on the Automatic Vehicle Barrier at Wright Gate, Fort Myer, which will go through mid-june. Construction will take place after hours and on select weekends and will cause temporary closures at Wright Gate and Marshall Drive. Henderson Hall s Gate 1, at the corner of Southgate Road and South Orme Street, will be open to mitigate any Wright Gate closures weekdays from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. (normally open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and weekends from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pedestrian and bicycle access will NOT be available at Wright Gate during the temporary gate closures.
