Position Title: Family Support Case Reports To: Family Support Coordinator Primary Objective: Division: Family and Community Programs Direct Reports: No direct reports Describes the main purpose of the job The Family Support Service offers flexible, responsive assistance to vulnerable families in the Colac Otway and Corangamite Shires. The service promotes the safety of children and supports families to work towards negotiated goals that will improve the safety, health and wellbeing of the family. The program comprises casework, counseling, case management and support to families in their homes and other settings. It is based on a collaborative approach to assist vulnerable families to build on their existing strengths to further develop coping skills. A Family is defined as any configuration of adults and/or parents who have or expect to have the care of children or young people. Adults and/or parents include single caregivers, couples, guardians, grandparents or other relatives. Person Specification: Qualifications & Experience Preferably, an appropriate tertiary qualification in social work, welfare studies or other related areas. Current Driver s License. Current Police Check and working with Children Check. Experience and skills in providing support and casework to families and children using a variety of intervention skills. Expertise in areas of Mental Health or Alcohol and other Drugs or Disability and or Family Violence. Core Competencies Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands. Ability to relate and communicate comfortably with people from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Experience in developing facilitating and working with groups. Ability to provide confidential, flexible and responsive support in a variety of settings. An understanding of issues related to families at risk. A knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection system. Willingness to participate in further training and professional development.
