CHARTING THE COURSE FOR A LIFETIME OF LEARNING AND GROWTH Academic excellence is about more than just grades and test scores. It s achieved by fostering creativity and innovation, and building core knowledge and critical skills for 21st century success. For 50 years, Archbishop Ryan has provided dynamic learning experiences inside and outside the classroom, and encourage students to ask questions, seek answers, communicate, collaborate and solve complex problems. We encourage students to be self-motivated, lifelong learners by engaging their intellects and sparking their imaginations. The result? Our graduates go on to many excellent colleges, equipped with the academic skills and character traits they will need to become tomorrow s leaders. Our Faculty Archbishop Ryan is proud to have a dedicated team of highly qualified and caring teachers, known and respected for their high standards and commitment to their students. Our teachers are vital members of our family and contribute to our rich culture in countless ways. Engaging classes enable our teachers to interact with all students and to get to know each individual. Our teachers go above and beyond to inspire students, keep them engaged, and provide the best quality Catholic education possible. Classroom learning is supportive and dynamic with student-centered lessons. Our students develop academic goals, strong study habits, and a positive work ethic. 4 5

OFFERING THE BASICS, COMPLEMENTED BY THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY At Archbishop Ryan, teachers embrace technology and take a dynamic, innovative approach in integrating technology into instruction and classroom learning. All students have access to cutting-edge technology on campus and from home. Our Curriculum Archbishop Ryan s academic program is based on a traditional liberal arts curriculum. Education should be more than the acquisition of facts and the primary focus should be on training the intellect as fully as possible. To that end, we adhere to rigorous and well-rounded academic requirements. Our curriculum is designed to develop each student s ability to write well, think logically, and make informed decisions. Following our school mission, dedicated teachers challenge students to work to their God-given potential. Curriculum, instruction, assessment, and appropriate academic interventions are aligned with these high standards to support our students. At Archbishop Ryan, through a partnership with the Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy, students have the opportunity to take supplemental courses in classes such as astronomy and video game design. We are also proud partners with Holy Family University, which allows juniors and seniors the ability to take college-level courses here at Ryan, taught by Holy Family professors for both high school and college credit. EQUIPPING SAINTS FOR LIFE IN THIS WORLD AND THE NEXT Our Catholic Identity Catholic Identity is integral to the heart and soul of Archbishop Ryan High School, helping students to form faith-filled lives and motivating a genuine desire to serve others. Daily theology classes allow students to incorporate and share their personal faith experiences, make connections to the world around them, and ask important questions. Putting Faith into Action Our active school ministry program is a vital part of our Christ-centered community and provides many opportunities for students to grow and share their faith, and to put their faith into action. Students are invited to attend Mass every morning in the school chapel. But whether they choose to attend or not, their spiritual growth is assured. Throughout their four years, starting with the Freshman Opening Liturgy and culminating with the Kairos experience, students are encouraged to discover themselves and cultivate their relationship with God. Christian Service Service to others is built into the Catholic approach to education. This is a part of every student s experience. Service opportunities such as preparing meals for the guests of Blessed Sarnelli Community, collecting and distributing Thanksgiving baskets to neighbors, visiting area nursing homes, preparing casseroles for the guests of Saint John s Hospice, or supporting Catholic service organizations, allow each student the opportunity to experience the joy of giving. However, we believe that not only do we give when we participate in service projects, but we receive as well. We learn about the nature of God, about others, about ourselves, and about the world in which we live. 8 9

ENCOURAGING ARTISTIC TALENTS TO SHINE At Ryan, We are Alive with the Arts! Emerging talents are cultivated through participation in Art, Band or Vocal Arts as part of a student s daily schedule. We encourage students to recognize their special gifts and we provide multiple outlets through which they can realize their full potential. Twice annually Archbishop Ryan showcases its students creativity with an Art Show, highlighting artistic talent in visual, musical and performing arts. Archbishop Ryan is home to a proud tradition of biannual school musicals that delight audiences from throughout the area. Recent productions include Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. Theater enthusiasts are also offered the special experience of black-box theater, in which shows are staged and performed in smaller settings while also providing a classroom for our students to learn about stage production. Fostering creativity within the framework of commitment and collaboration, students can share in pursuits that they will treasure for a lifetime. The Interests of Today Become the Careers of Tomorrow During high school years students will recognize burgeoning interests that for many will serve as the foundation for future careers and community involvement. In combination with a solid core curriculum these interests can be explored and refined to provide each student with better idea of what a future path may look like. There are dozens of extracurricular activities available. Pursuits in journalism, politics, math, debate, communications and philosophy are just some of the clubs offered. Students will earn priceless experiences to take with them wherever their futures lead. Always aware that fun and social interaction is an integral part of each student s life, school sponsored dances, competitive sports and student government participation are additional options to enjoy.
