We would like to say thank you to all of the performers, volunteers, library staff and participants who made our 2015 Summer Reading Program a memorable experience for all! This year, our participants read a total of 2192.5 hours. That s a little over 91 continuous days of reading!!!! What an accomplishment! Just a reminder, if your child turned in their reading record on or before July 24, please stop by the library and pick up their prize packet and free book! Required Reading for Students As summer comes to a close, don t forget that your child might have required reading to do before the school year starts! Don t worry though, the Allen Park Public Library has your back! Tweens can grab information sheets for Cabrini and Allen Park Middle School regarding required reading in the Tween section of the library. These sheets outline the requirements as well as provide a list of books your child should not read, due to the fact that the students will be reading these books during the school year. Teens can check the program kiosk in the Teen section of the library to pick up their reading requirements (or see page 6). They can also check the book display on the end of one of the Adult fiction shelves, located behind Mrs. Brandi s desk. Can t find a book you re looking for? We can put it on hold for you and have it delivered to the library! We ll then call or email you to let you know when your item is available for pickup. Upcoming Adult Programs at the Allen Park Library A Magical Night of Jazz and Illusion Tuesday, August 11 Keith Gamble: Jazz Ensemble 5:00 P.M. - 6:30 P.M. ***Jazz concert will be held on the patio at the library, weather permitting, otherwise, will be held inside the library.*** Baffling Bill the Magician 6:30 P.M. All are welcome to enjoy the jazz concert. Adults only for the Magic Show. Tickets can be picked up at the circulation desk. The library will be closed this day so we can get ready for the Magic Show! The DDTs: A Ramones Tribute Band Tuesday, August 25 6:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. The DDTs are a four man group who play the songs of the Ramones, a historically influential rock/punk band. Join us for a night of lively music to celebrate the end of our Adult Summer Reading Program! No registration required. Beanstack is a FREE site that gives you personalized book and app recommendations based on your child s interests and reading level. When you set up your child s profile, all you will need to do is answer a few questions regarding your child s interests and reading levels. Beanstack will then start generating book recommendations for your child. You can then read the book synopsis and check our catalog for the book. If we do not own the book, you can always put it on hold and get it sent to the library to pick up! They also have free themes that include background information, discussion questions, book and app recommendations and supplemental activities. Some current Beanstack themes include day at the zoo, African American history and springtime. Allen Park residents with a valid library card can start using Beanstack today!
