ITINERARY Day 1 June 18 IN TRANSIT Arrive by car or plane and check in at the Plaza Inn & Suites at Ashland Creek. Accompany your fellow theater-goers to a delicious welcome reception and orientation to prepare for your week of theater productions. (R) Day 2 June 19 Meet with the group this morning after breakfast for your first Chorus Chat with lecturer Dr. Patrick Lloyd Hatcher. Take a stroll through Lithia Park or explore other activities in town, and have lunch on your own. Start your evening by dining in one of Ashland s many restaurants, pubs, or bistros. Then, attend your first included theater performance.* (B) Day 3 June 20 After breakfast, meet with the group for the morning Chorus Chat. Then, discover what s behind the scenes on a backstage tour with a company member. Begin with a brief talk about the history of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and the intricacies of operating a theater in repertory. Tour stops include theater spaces as well as backstage, Green Room, and other behind-the-scenes areas. This evening, attend your second included theater performance. (B) Why Eureka? eu re ka: a cry of joy or satisfaction when one finds or discovers something. Day 4 June 21 After breakfast, begin your day with this morning s Chorus Chat. During your free time, explore charming downtown Ashland, take in an optional matinee performance, or visit a local winery. Tonight, enjoy your third included theater performance. (B) Day 5 June 22 Meet the group for the final Chorus Chat this morning, followed by a lively hour in discussion with a company member involved in one or more of the plays your group has seen, and then have lunch on your own. View a matinee as your final included theater performance. At the close of the day, join the group for the Farewell Dinner and celebrate a wonderful week of new theater and new friends! ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATIONS Experience the best of Ashland at the peaceful Plaza Inn & Suites, located in the heart of the city. Just steps away from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters, Lithia Park, and 90 restaurants, the Plaza offers something for everyone. Guests are treated to a delicious complimentary hot breakfast and evening snacks, and amenities include a fitness center, convenient parking, and 92 elegantly appointed rooms. ABOUT THE LECTURER Dr. Patrick Lloyd Hatcher earned his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley in history and has taught in both the political science and history departments. He is an aficionado of playwrights and theater, and has led Cal Discoveries Travel trips to New York s famed theater district and, of course, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. During morning Chorus Chats, as Dr. Hatcher shares insight into the nuances of the works, you will expand your mastery of interpretation. Dr. Hatcher is an expert on the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and attends it annually. He is always excited to have fellow travelers join him around the city to explore its museums, attractions, and restaurants. No refunds are granted within 29 days of tour departure or for no-show or early departure from a trip already in progress. CAA MEMBERSHIP POLICY: One traveler per room, whether an alumnus/a or friend, must be a current Cal Alumni Association member at the time of departure to participate in Cal Discoveries Travel offerings. Payment of $60 for seniors 65 years and over and $75 for others establishes a regular or affiliate membership with all other Association benefits. Memberships are for individuals only, and are nonrefundable and non-transferable. A traveling pair and their children under 21 years of age may travel on one membership.
