Come enjoy the Southern charm of historic Mobile. Our host, the Admiral Semmes Hotel has been a Mobile landmark since its opening in 1940. The hotel is named for Admiral Raphael Semmes, the first and only commander of the Confederate ship CSS Alabama. The hotel was beautifully renovated in 1985, with all the modern amenities. It is located in the heart of historic Mobile. We will visit historic Fort Conde founded in 1702. Fort Conde protected Mobile and its citizens for almost 100 years. Mobile was controlled by England, Spain, and in 1813 the United States troops occupied the City. The Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola has a collection of aircraft and artifacts that chronicle the rich history of U.S. Naval Aviation. Cubi Point Officer s Club has been recreated with many of the original furnishings and plaques. Our memorial service will be held on the USS Alabama (BB-60). The Alabama won nine WWII battle stars. I can t help but wonder how the writers of this document would react to the happenings in USA 2006. Their beliefs were based on a Supreme Power from which all rights and responsibilities were granted. Today it appears that we are becoming a society focusing on freedom from religion. Public acknowledgement of belief in a higher power is discouraged and values associated with that belief are scorned.
